Product Description

Amazon.co.uk Review

The original Klonoa for the PlayStation was a critically acclaimed 2-D platform game, but it was mostly ignored by consumers. Gamers passed on it partially because of its unfamiliar and unusual lead character, Klonoa, a furry critter with a giant pair of ears tipped with extremities. Hopefully PlayStation 2 owners will not suffer from a similar aural phobia because they'll be missing a fine game in the sequel. Klonoa 2: Lunatea's Veil takes the excellent gameplay of its predecessor and puts it in a 3-D world; the game offers a nice mix of graphics, gameplay, and sound--albeit for a relatively short time.

Fans of games such as Sonic Adventure and Crash Bandicoot will love this title. It plays similarly to those games, but with superior camera control. Although the graphics are technically impressive--excellent use of lighting effects, particle effects, and cel shading--it's the style that really stands out. The bright and playful graphics give off a feel-good vibe without being puerile. Unfortunately, all these lovely aspects are found in a game that most players will finish in fewer than 10 hours; sure, there are some secrets and puzzles, but nothing that's truly challenging. It's a brief experience, but one of the best on the PlayStation 2. --Raymond M Padilla

Manufacturer's Description

Klonoa is the long-eared hero of the world Lunatea, an enchanted realm divided into separate kingdoms. When a forgotten fourth kingdom of darkness threatens to upset the balance of power in Lunatea, Klonoa and his friends go on a magical journey to set things right again. This family-friendly action game uses a new illustration technique to create dynamic camera angles in a seemingly 2-D world.

5.0 out of 5 stars Spot on, 7 Mar 2002
By A Customer
This review is from: Klonoa 2: Lunatea's Veil (Video Game)
To be honest, I was forced into buying this game by my sister, who wanted a nice and 'simple' game that she could just pick up and play. I had my doubts but after playing for only a few minutes I was hooked. It is of course a 2d platform game
and for what it is it is spot on.

The story line is the old 'saviour-of-the-world' stuff but the cut-scenes are nicely done, if a tad too long. The story is actually quite good and is engaging. What starts off as a simple task of ringing four bells (it's a lot better than it sounds, honest!) becomes bigger and more difficult.

The graphics may be considered as cutesy but they suit the gameplay well. It's a shame that you can't explore the backgrounds but they are amazingly detailed and you'll spend half your time looking at what's going on next! The range of levels or 'visions' as they are called in the game is astounding, from the peaceful temple gardens to a warring city to a wierd and wonderful maze to a water park. And with each comes it's own music, some of which are beautiful tinkly types (which will annoy you afer a while, trust me) and others that are scary or funny or just down right catchy!

At first the gameplay is simplisitic but as you progress through the game it takes real brains (and sometimes u'll have to phone mensa) to figure out how to get past the next bit. Admittedly at times I wanted to scream and tear out my hair, but after you realise the solution you're kicking yourself for not thinking of it!

All in all, it is a beautiful game with engaging gameplay. Hard-core gamers will properly want to throw this game out of a very high window and then go and stomp all over it and buy Jak and Dexter instead. For those who want a game that's accesible and easy to play, look no further than Klonoa2.

5.0 out of 5 stars A game with real charm for any age, 16 Oct 2002

It's funny how many people say 'I bought this for my little brother/sister' but end up loving it themselves. Klonoa 2's appearance may put some off with its simple lines and bright colours, but it has tons of charm and the gameplay is a delight. Things start out extremely easy, but by the later levels it get considerably trickier (although never too frustrating). You can dash through the game following the story, or hang around to collect all the various trophies, stars, dolls, bells, etc. which will take a lot longer, there's a good degree of variety in the levels and approaches, and a number of boss battles to boot. All in all, a fun and rewarding experience - just goes to show that sometimes simple ideas are best.
