Fun:
I bought these cables to record with my HD PVR. The description claims on amazon that these cables also support 1080p (full hd) which I am glad to say does. My ps3 is displaying full 1080p. I always thought that component cables could not display 1080p but for some reason these one's do. The cable length is 2m which is huge. They are heavy for cables which is only a good thing. When the cables plug into your ps3 the fitting is tight which is good it is not loose like the cables you got with your ps3. On a side note if you want to render 1080p footage you have to record in 1080i (Due to the HD PVR) then render in 1080p. Beware though as this takes a lot of time. I have a phenom X6 with 8gb ram ant a 9 minute video still took around 3 hours. All in all well worth the extra money if you want to record gameplay.

My review is based on PS2 usage:
Don't waste your money on the cheap PS2/PS3 component cables if you want perfect output from your PS2, they may be fine when just gaming at the standard resolutions, but when you come to play anything that supports Progressive Scan (480i) you'll more than likely find that the cheap cables just aren't up to the job, producing ghosting and colour distortions.
These official Sony cables give a vibrant and crystal clear picture on my PS2, and are very well constructed.
So, if you want to get the most out of probably the best console of all time, you need these cables. If you're switching from the standard SCART combo, then the difference is night and day.

Fun:
My PS3 is connected to a projector via AV receiver that doesn't support HDMI. Therefore, this cable was my only option to get HD res.
Works great, but make sure you also get a proper component cable from AV receiver to TV/Projector, otherwise signal will deteriorate and quality will be lost.

Stick to sony for superior picture quality
