5.0 out of 5 stars Best of Class 26 Mar 2007
By Neo
After using similar products before, I was very sceptical. However, after being failed miserably by the Belkin FM transmitter, I felt that I had nothing to lose.

It's brilliant. Does exactly what you want it to do, without any annoying issues like cassette noise, background hiss, poor sound quality or poor built quality.

You get near CD quality sound coming from your car speakers, obviously depending on the quality of your source in the first place. This is compared to the below radio quality sound with the FM transmitter.

My most low-tech purchase for a long time but the most satisfying to date after all that unexpected frustrations with the Belkin transmitter. If you need something to connect your portable music player to your car stereo, this is it.

One of the few times when the low-tech solution is the way forward.

Heave a big sigh of relieve and look no further.

PS

If it sounds like it's being "underwater", press on your tape reverse button and presto, you should get beautiful sound. It's just the way these adapter works and it applies to all brands/makes.

This is a great product. If you are stuck with an old tape player in your car (like me), but keep all your songs are on your MD or CD player (again like me) you will love this. The quality is excellent, better than an ordinary tape thats for sure! If you have a portable MD or CD player buy this now!

4.0 out of 5 stars Does what it should do and does it well. 21 Mar 2006
By A Customer
I've tried 2 other tape adapters previously. One from Argos at about £10 was absolute pants - just missed out loads of the music, it was like listening to a different song. The next was from Tescos at about £4. The first one I got was OK, until the lead right next to the jack became damaged so signal to the cassette was very dodgy and would keep cutting out. The next one was OK for a while but then started randomly changing direction and getting spat out of the player after being in for 30 seconds. The third and final one just got spat out as soon as I put it in. The sound on all of them was OK rather than good, with a fair bit of background mechnical noise.

Now the Sony. It happily stays in the cassestte player and doesn't get spat out. Sound quality is good, with no noticeable background mechanical noise. Build quality seems good, but I've only had it 3 days. It loses one star 'cos the sound is very quiet, meaning my car stereo gets turned up quite loud, so there's a bit of background hum on quiet tracks, but for under £10, I think it's worth the money.

5.0 out of 5 stars Good piece of kit. 13 Mar 2004
This is the perfect piece of equipment for all you people who cannot be afford a CD or MP3 plater to take the place of your cars tape player. Simply plug it into your CD-Walkman or MP3 player via the headphone socket, and insert the tape. Simple.

The sound quality is not impared, and is very hardwaring. It also beats the cheaper 'Rio' model I bought previously - which broke after four weeks.

This is exactly what you expect from sony: good quality and durable. Buy one.

5.0 out of 5 stars Buy this - not a cheap one 6 Jun 2005
Amazon Verified Purchase
I bought the iRiver H140 and thought that cassette adapters were pretty much the same so bought one for around a fiver. Boy was I wrong. It rattled in the cassette player and never played in stereo so I invested in this one. What a difference! No rattles and great sound. So when you've paid a pretty penny for a decent mp3 player you absolutely have to invest in a decent cassette adapter - I totally recommend this one.

4.0 out of 5 stars Great sound but be careful! 28 Feb 2006
Bought one of these after trying a few other cheaper models, these all suffered from poor sound and a dodgy mechanism that rattled and caused the player in my car to auto-reverse. The Sony adapter, however, is superb. Excellent sound and build quality, no rattling, no annoying auto-reverse.

But, be careful! I did manage to break this item by winding the cable around the cassette every time I wanted to store it out of sight in the glovebox (best not to leave it on show as it just advertises that you've probably got an iPod in the glovebox!). The cable split where it enters the cassette itself and my bodge job to fix it was unsuccessful! I was considering trying to do a better job with a soldering iron, but at this price I thought I may as well buy another one and be more careful in future.

If you're using an MP3 player regularly in the car you can't go wrong with this beauty, the chepaer models just aren't up to scratch.

5.0 out of 5 stars Great practical solution 16 May 2004
By A Customer
Well executed solution that allows you to connect your MP3 player (does anyone use anything else now) to your retro car cassette player. Good frequency response. S/N ratio also good but crank the volume on your MP3 player/CD antique to around 70 percent of maximum for best results.

4.0 out of 5 stars The Best Available.... 4 July 2007
If you want to play your MP3 throught the car stereo and you can't hard wire it then there are only two alternatives. Either using an FM transmitter or a car cassette adapter (if you still have a cassette player). Of the two, the sound quality of the latter is superior. This little baby is the best available out there. There is no noise from the mechanism (almost all the others are very noisy), the sound quality is excellent and the price is reasonable.
