This Sony Hi-Fi is great, easy to set up & use, nice compact size but big 100wt sound (2x50w)
No fiddly controls, easy remote that does all fuctions, clear display screen
    with a choice of displays
DAB radio is superb and unit can diplay radio track titles/artists as they play!
It has an audio in slot for turntables or mp3 players but the "USB" connection is biased towards Sony kit.
All in all its a sweet piece of kit - go get one.

Classic modern looks (no fake wood) with a display which is useful but not distracting (no visualisation or sound levels jumping up and down). We bought a pair of Alphason Essentials AMS45 Speaker Stands which look nice with it. Tried it with DAB, audio CD, MP3 CD and USB, and it sounds very good for the size of unit - definitely worth the £100 more it cost me than the one I had before). There is a bit of a hum whenever it's on, which you can hear if you get very close to it - I think it must be a cooling fan - but its not audible when its playing.

It does specify Sony USB kit, but I just happened to have a Sony microvault 4Gb drive which you can now get for about £17. It works fine with it, even on an extension lead (I thought it looked silly sticking out of the front). I put about 70 MP3s on this which would play for about 3 hours and the drive could hold about 10 times as many! The order of play can be a surprise - I think it does it in the order in which the files are copied to the drive and it seems to take no notice of how you have numbered the tracks

The sound of this unit is so unbalanced - the bass is muffled and just smoothers everything else, and there is no great frequency range. As well as totally lacking in subtlety, nuance, and depth of sound, this unit also lacks in power - full volume is not enough, and the speakers distort the sound horribly before the volume gets anywhere being turned up to full.

This is just a huge disappointment in every way imaginable. Not what I expect from a leading brand like Sony. Especially at this price. They are trading on their name only here as there is absolutely no quality to this product whatsoever.

I gave away my high end hi-fi separates and ripped all 10000 of my CDs in order to digitise my music, save space, and have more flexibility with it, but I should never have bought this. In future I will listen before buying!

    AVOID LIKE THE PLAGUE!
