Dissapointing for Sony?,
By dougiew "dougiew" (Edinburgh) - See all my reviews
This review is from: Sony CMTGS30DAB DAB Micro System (Electronics)
Bought this unit yesterday - took it back today. Very dissapointed with the sound. Possibly the speakers just not up to the job? Can't take the front covers off but I suspect they're only single drive units - no treble at all. Certainly never 2 x 75 watts as claimed on the box! It found plenty of DAB stations OK but Sony only supplied a piece of wire for an aerial - why - how much extra would it have cost to include a proper DAB aerial - £5 maximum? The equaliser settings made little or no difference to the sound at all. I even went to another shop to try it out in case the unit was faulty - but just the same I'm afraid. Sorry Sony but I think you've got this one wrong. Gone back to my 10 year old Panasonic unit - much better sound.

Great Looks Ruined by Poor Sound Quality.,

I wanted to purchase a second smaller HiFi for use in the Study, and decided to buy the Sony. Our main HiFi/Home Cinema set up is all Sony,as is the 42" Plasma TV. I awaited the Sony CMT30GSDAB's arrival with anticipation. On connecting it all up, the Sound Quality through the supplied "Full Range" Speakers was truly AWFUL.The sound was tinny and thin with no Bass or Warmth at all.I even swapped the speakers for a pair of Tannoy Fusion 2's which made very little difference. There are no Bass and Treble controls on the unit, just 4 switchable digital sound enhancement Modes which are even worse!! I have sent the Sony back for a refund,as I felt it was just not fit for the purpose of providing decent sounding music.I listen mainly to Classic FM radio and Classical CD's. I bought another unit from the Amazon Marketplace Seller Pixmania - the Philips MCM760 on the basis of favourable online reviews. The Philips is quite simply OUTSTANDING. The sound Quality is Rich and Powerful from this 2 x 75 Watts RMS Unit, and although there are PROPER Bass and Treble Controls on the Unit, there is really no need to use them. The Philips is BRILLIANT and comes at a VERY GOOD Price!! It has been recently discontinued, so buy one quickly before it is too late!

You Pays Your Money.....,
By Sandie O "The Vampire" (Manchester, England) - See all my reviews

I agree with "Dougiew" about the sound. I bought this unit because it was Sony and to replace my CMT-NE3 which doesn't have DAB.The speakers are supposed to be 2x75watts but yet my old 2x25watts sounds richer and has more depth to the sound. As I am using this unit in the kitchen and it is not my only music source, I am not disappointed enough to return it!I thought that the price I paid was very good-delivery free and good value for the price I got it for- it was up to £30 more at other places. You pays your money and you makes your choice-£120 is ok.
