Product Description
The Sony CHC-CL5MD Mini System combines modern stylish looks with a collection of high end features and a full, balanced sound to provide a superb mid-range system to suit any home.
This well conceived midi-system features a three-disc CD-changer, MiniDisc player/recorder, cassette deck and FM/AM tuner with clock. Its two-tone silver and blue finish is offset by a large illuminated orange circular display which acts as the menu for the controls. This is encircled by a silver coloured ring which works as a jog-dial to logically perform certain functions such as skipping through tracks on a CD. The two speakers, which are separate detached units, complement this styling with silver finish and blue removable grilles. Removing the grilles reveals a well put together two-way bass-reflex speaker system which adequately handles the 2x50 Watts RMS output. Setting up the system is simple. Connect the speaker wires to the back of the system via spring-retaining clips, plug it in and away you go. To use the tuner, you'll also need to connect an FM antenna and/or AM Loop antenna, both of which are supplied.
The CHC-CL1 also comes with a smart compact remote control unit which takes two AA batteries (supplied). The system can be controlled equally well from this remote or from the base unit, with most of the settings and buttons being fairly intuitive.
The MiniDisc deck supports MDLP for 4x long record and play, plus PC Link technology so that you can download music digitally direct form your PC with the separately available PC Link kit (PCLKMN10). Various functions are available on the system: preset stations for the tuner, a variety of different preset equaliser settings, mode buttons for the different sources plus more. The CD changer employs a three-tray shuffle system, while the top-loading cassette deck has a manually operated door into which cassettes are inserted and ejected by hand, rather than relying on any mechanical intervention.
The sound quality is full and well balanced. It delivers plenty of punch without distortion and conveys decent separation with convincing yet not overpowering vocals. The 2x50 Watt RMS output is plentiful for most rooms.
