As has been said, this is an ideal kitchen/bedroom product - certainly not to be considered worthy of the sitting room. The reason is the sound quality, certainly clean and clear but with not the sound width to accomodate enough of the bass register. There is a so-called 'mega bass' setting - no tone controls - which you need on all the time, but frankly it doesn't yield much down there at all. With no output socket there's no option to plug in exterior speakers, or indeed headphones. It's good to have AM as well as FM, but with Sony's expertise I would have thought they could have accomodated Long Wave too at little added expense. All that said, to have cassette player, CD player and AM/FM radio in one neat, compact, comparatively small casing is extremely practical, and if you can perch it on a shelf somewhere so listening to it from a small distance, the sound width appears a little wider (or is that my imagination?). For what it offers, the price is excellent. You couldn't possibly expect digital radio included for that. Don't be fooled by the word 'digital' in the product title. It is great - especially for my wife - to be able to play cassettes as well as CDs and of course have the radio while she spends the most time of the two of us in the kitchen. For that reason alone, buy it, but don't expect wonderful hi-fi sound. On balance I think it's a clever, very reasonably priced piece of kit, and incidentally, despite the terrible weather before Christmas it arrived only two days after I ordered and paid for it - excellent service.
