I bought this for my elderly parents who still have cassettes as well as CDs. Unfortunately the first one that arrived had a malfunctioning CD but Amazon's returns system worked brilliantly and a new one arrived very shortly. This one has worked perfectly and for the price the sound is ideal for their small flat. All the instructions are easy to follow and my parents who are in their 80's and techno-phobes can manage it really well. I can recommend this player to others.

Bought this a couple of months ago as I wanted something to play tapes, CDS and radio - and didn't want it to take up vast acres of space, with miles of cable etc. Very neat, sound quality is more than adequate as I have it in a small room. I've set the three radio stations I want - and although I struggled a bit with this (I was doing it quite late at night, however, with the rest of the house asleep, so maybe not the best time!), now it is very straightforward to press the buttons to get the service I want. The set is poked in a corner, so ease is of the essence. I also felt the shape of the speakers would suit this situation, and I think they do.
If you want the sound of the orchestra actually playing in your room, then that necessitates a more proactive purchasing process than just picking a player on line! If you just want to listen to a bit of music, talk, comedy, whatever, this will do it very well.

As has been said, this is an ideal kitchen/bedroom product - certainly not to be considered worthy of the sitting room. The reason is the sound quality, certainly clean and clear but with not the sound width to accomodate enough of the bass register. There is a so-called 'mega bass' setting - no tone controls - which you need on all the time, but frankly it doesn't yield much down there at all. With no output socket there's no option to plug in exterior speakers, or indeed headphones. It's good to have AM as well as FM, but with Sony's expertise I would have thought they could have accomodated Long Wave too at little added expense. All that said, to have cassette player, CD player and AM/FM radio in one neat, compact, comparatively small casing is extremely practical, and if you can perch it on a shelf somewhere so listening to it from a small distance, the sound width appears a little wider (or is that my imagination?). For what it offers, the price is excellent. You couldn't possibly expect digital radio included for that. Don't be fooled by the word 'digital' in the product title. It is great - especially for my wife - to be able to play cassettes as well as CDs and of course have the radio while she spends the most time of the two of us in the kitchen. For that reason alone, buy it, but don't expect wonderful hi-fi sound. On balance I think it's a clever, very reasonably priced piece of kit, and incidentally, despite the terrible weather before Christmas it arrived only two days after I ordered and paid for it - excellent service.

This is just a short review, but i'll try and give you my honest verdict for this product.

The good ...

1. Has CD player, Digital Tuner and Cassette player.
2. Sound quality very good for the price. Very loud and clear audio!
3. Nice build quality.
4. Has an In-socket to plug in MP3/Ipod ect when you buy the correct lead.
5. Nice looking design!
6. Can play my old tapes and record CD's ect.
7. Radio picks up lots of stations.

The bad ...

1. Bass not very good and hardly present.
2. Power only 1.7w per speaker.
3. No Bass or treble control.

For someone who wants to listen to all kinds of music whether it be on a CD or Tape and are not too fussed about sound quality this is an ideal piece of equipment to use. The sound quality is by no means bad, just seems to focus on the mid and top range of the audio spectrum. That means vocals and guitars are loud and clear, but the bass is rather lacking. You certainly wont wake up your neighbours with a booming sound through your walls! ;o)

I bought it mainly to listen to CD's in my small box room whilst using the PC and that makes it ideal. If you want to link up your Ipod to the speakers you just need to buy a small lead with a 3.5mm male jack each end and away you go.

What I really love about this player is I can listen to CD's, Tapes, Radio and anything else that plugs into the IN-Socket which makes it so versatile. I thought my old tapes would sound rubbish but was amazed how good they sounded. Sony have been clever by making this player sound good in any mode you choose to hear.

So for the money you really wont be disappointed !!

This is a neat, attractive and well-designed product. The volume is more than enough for normal home use and the sound is beautifully clear (I have not needed to even try out the mega bass). All the controls are easy to operate. The CD player seems to pick up at a point earlier than where I left off listening, but this is easily remedied by checking the track number before I press the play button. I agree with some reviewers that the display (not lit) is not easy to read, especially if you have the player on a low table as I have. But of course the top is needed for the disc and tape area, and this small inconvenience is more than made up for by the convenience of having all these functions in one piece of equipment.
It took me a while to find the handle, which for some reason is not indicated in the illustration in the instruction book. It in fact forms part of the housing of the unit, which makes it comfortable to use and very stable to carry. You simply lift it up from the top rear.
All in all, an excellent purchase at a very good price.
