5.0 out of 5 stars Great Head Unit, 25 April 2009
This review is from: Sony CDX-GT620U CD/MP3/USB/Front Aux (Electronics)
This is a great headunit for the money. The USB slot is a godsend, and the sound quality is pretty good. Setup is also very easy. The included remote is a waste of time though, as all the features can be accessed from the unit, unlike some Sony HU's where the remote gave acccess to other setup options.

4.0 out of 5 stars Sony CDX-GT620U, 16 July 2009

Good:-
- Reasonably good sound.
- Reasonably good display. More space/chars would be useful, but it's adequate.
- Simple/effective access of tracks on a USB memory stick.
- When listening to an MP3, the position of the current track is retained when leaving/turning off the car. Rather handy when listing to a 2hr audio book!
- When inserting a USB memory stick with new/updated music, the unit reads the device when turned on. This read seems quite quick. On my 8GB stick with over 4GB of data, it takes just a few seconds. From then on, when the stick has not been updated, when the unit turns on and access is instant.

Not So Good:-
- Refitting the front after you've removed it can be a tad fiddly.
- The small cover flap over the USB slow be removed, so you have a little flap to the right of the unit when a USB stick is in it. Shame it cannot be removed if you intend to leave a USB stick in it all the time as it looks a bit messy. I think I might actually snap the plastic restrains off the cover so I can achieve this.
- Poor functionality when connected to IPod. You can navigate around the tracks, but it's very unfriendly.
- Slow FF & REW on MP3 tracks. So you've listed to 45 minutes of a MP3 audio book and for one reason or another have lost you position in the track. You will probably have to sit with your finger on FF for a good few minutes to FF through 45 minutes. Unfortunately there is not way to jump to increase FF or REW speed.

General points:-
- There are a number of sound options, DSO, XPlod and goodness knows what else which just seem a waste of time. (At least for me).
- Recommend you get an Eagle Tec USB stick (8gb for about £16). These are tiny so do not get in the way in the car, and are so small they can be left in the cover and still fit in the protective case.
- With a standard USB stick, navigation of music consists of simply navigating through a list of all the folders (from anywhere on the device) which contain music. The actual folder names are shown. Once a folder has been selected the files/tracks within it can be moved through. No MP3 tags etc are used until the track is playing. Recommend you (a) put albums in folders called <ARTIST NAME>-<ALBUM NAME> (with no spaces) and use as few spaces as possible in the file names too.

For the money, happy with the unit!

4.0 out of 5 stars Awesome only one down side..., 29 Jun 2009

This stereo is awesome the sound quality from USB stick is top notch!!
Only down side it I killed my first 2GB SONY USB drive when I stalled once, could be my bad driving though... One other small problem is that in my car I sometimes clipped the USB stick when changing into 5th and thus slightly bent the USB end... Could be that the gear stick is closer to the center console than in some cars?? However I solved this by using a USB extender and coiled up the excess wire into the ash tray, works a treat now.
