A basic BD-ROM drive that does exactly what it advertises. Retailed boxed product that comes complete with SATA interface cable, 4x mounting screws, and a replacement standard-size tray front for use with PC cases that have 'flip-down' doors in front of the drives (the fitted translucent tray front is slightly larger than normal and can jam the doors on this kind of PC case). Also includes a wire tool for opening the drive when powered off, which you need to do to change the tray front, and full instructions.

The included PowerDVD software is version 7, which is not the latest version, but works just fine.

I recommend purchasers install the latest firmware for this drive after fitting (available from the Sony website) in order to avoid compatibility problems with newer Blu-ray discs.

O.K. If you are running Windows Vista and you have installed Service pack 2 Power DVD 7.3 (which ships with this drive) _will_not_work_ !

I found info on the web stating that Vista with SP2 does not work with PDVD 7.3 and it is absolutely correct. I'm sure they're aware of the problem so you have two options.

    1. Wait for them to release a fix (or Microsoft depending whose fault it is)
    2. Install Corel WinDVD 9.

I went for option #2 because I already had WinDVD.

The drive itself is very nice and you have two options of facia. I know that they designed the second more stock looking one to work with flip down bezels but you might even prefer it. I'm not sure if I like the perspex front or not to be honest but the option is there to change them.
I fitted my drive in an Alienware Area 51, so my Alien FX lighting really does look pretty good because it shines directly into the perspex lighting it red :)

This is the cheapest BDrom drive you can buy, even the LG is at least £15 more. I think the LG may write DVD's but that's a moot point to me as I already have 2 SATA DVDRW drives in my PC.

Good product, well packed and comes with everything you will need (Which is nice, because most OEMS don't bother to consider that you might need a molex to sata power adapter ! Also comes with a SATA cable, screws and lots of manuals to help you (should you need them).

Overall I recommend this drive as it does what it's supposed to all barring some software problems which really aren't any fault of the drive itself.
