5.0 out of 5 stars Sony BDP-S560 Blu Ray Player, 18 Dec 2009

This review is from: Sony BDPS560B Blu-ray Player with Full HD 1080p HDMI Video Output (Electronics)
Again, excellent service from Amazon, my item was with me within 3 working days delivered free, can't argue with that. The player it's self is compact & stylish, a little bigger than a standard DVD player, but only a little. I decided to go for this model after reading 'What Hi Fi Sound & Vision' magazine where it received 5 stars. It's my first Blu Ray player & i'm not dissapointed, this particular model features Wi-fi, useful if you want to access the BD-live feature, or update the players software easily (i've done this already). The picture is excellent, sharp & bright. The player's menu is easy to get around if you want to change the settings. If I had one wish from Sony, it would be to include an 'Eject' button on the remote, i personally find this useful.

1.0 out of 5 stars Software update problems, 4 Mar 2011
This review is from: Sony BDPS560B Blu-ray Player with Full HD 1080p HDMI Video Output (Electronics)
Bought this player 6 months ago, and followed an onscreen prompt to update the software. half way through the player froze with a sys-err prompt. The player is now as good as useless and apparently needs to be taken to a Sony service centre for repair. My nearest is 60 miles away and Sony's attitude is tough luck. This apparently is a fairly common problem so be carefull when upgarding, or consider a different player.

As a BD player this product is fine; excellent picture from up-scaled DVDs, reasonably quick start up and easily navigable menus. The problem I have encountered is with the wireless function. I bought the wireless enabled model because I wanted to stream my photos from my (upstairs) PC to the (downstairs) TV but it has proved impossible to connect the player to my wireless home network (consisting of a PC running Windows Vista, a laptop running Windows XP, a Linksys WRT54G router, a printer and a Virgin cable modem). What's worse, I cannot access the internet from either computer when the BD player is switched on! Sony has tested the player and say it is working properly so they can't be of further help, and neither Virgin nor Linksys has been able to assist. It seems that paying extra for the wireless feature has been a complete waste of money.
