If you see a great shot, speed can be of the essence, and Quick AutoFocus Live View helps you capture scenes almost as soon as you see them. Unique to Sony, it presents you with a live image preview together with fast and accurate autofocus, both through the rear LCD screen. Powered by a 9 point, centre’cross AF sensor, Quick AutoFocus Live View is the fastest technology of its type in the world. It copes with fast moving subjects. Scene Selection also helps you compose your shot quickly — this offers seven types of typical shooting situations, such as Backlit or Portrait, and sets the optimum exposure to get the best results at the touch of a button. If you prefer to use the optical viewfinder, the α380 has a bright and clear viewfinder with a wide field of vision.

Finding new angles to shoot above or below you means countless new creative options. The large 2.7" LCD screen can tilt to 40 degrees if viewed from below and a huge 135 degrees if viewed from above. So you can take dramatic low angle shots without crouching uncomfortably, or take unusual shots from high angles without having to climb onto chairs or ladders. Shooting from the hip can give you a child’s eye view of the world. It’s great for portraits too, allowing you to maintain eye contact with your subject while you shoot. The α380 screen also benefits from a brightness sensor which automatically adjusts for different ambient lighting conditions. This combines with a high contrast, anti–reflective coating to give you a clear and accurate view of the shot you are setting up, even in bright outdoor conditions. The advanced Teleconverter makes things easier for you in another way — it is a one–touch function which instantly gives you up to 2x magnification for distant images without the need for additional lenses.

The very best shots can be ruined by camera shake when you’re shooting handheld — all the more frustrating if the scene you photographed is unlikely to be repeated. The α380 hugely reduces the likelihood of camera shake with its SteadyShot INSIDE feature, which works with any lens. It uses gyroscopic sensors to deliver 4 step anti–shake correction without the need to add any special optics. You’ll find this a great asset when shooting in atmospheric low–light conditions where using a flash would spoil the mood. It keeps things crisper and clearer when you aren’t using a tripod for macro or high–zoom shots too.
