Great product. You can try before you buy, so no surprises before you part with actual cash. This is one of the top reviewed recording products along with Cakewalk, Sonar, Protools LE, Magix Studio and a lot of others. Perhaps I'm taking a too simple approach - but having looked at all of these differing products for hours, I have to say that the easy decision is to plump for this because it does the job as well as anything else and it's Sony. (Never had a poor product from Sony - so there's the power of a brand working on me at least.) But don't take my word for it, you can get a free and complete download of the whole system from the Sony website and try it for 30 days. When a manufacturer does that, you know they are confident that this is a good offering - something a lot of the competition doesn't seem to want to chance. So, try it before you buy it if you're in any doubt.

I found this very easy to use. Certainly compared with another package I trialled. There is a lot of jargon in this type of work and as a novice there is a whole new dictionary to learn. A lot of the sounds at first seem quite basic but I'm hoping that as I pick up experience that combinations and effects will improve them.
I easily added midi-track drums, bass and some effects then an audio track from my guitar. Then created an mp3. I can tell that there is still a lot to learn but I also found that there were things I wanted to do and havn't found how - like varying the volume of one track. Early days. For the price I thought there's little to lose.

This software is easy to use and particularly effective if you like creating music out of sampled loops. The help menu is excellent and you shouldn't have too many problems setting it up. I use an M-Audio midi keyboard and Tascam audio interface with it which it recognises easily and there have been few problems.The only annoying glitch so far is in using a VST piano instrument which came with my Tascam audio interface. The Sony software regularly crashes when using it and I haven't been able to resolve this so far. The VST synth included with the software works fine. Overall, less complex than the likes of Cubase but also more limiting in terms of effects etc. However, for loop based music it is excellent and for making podcasts and basic audio recordings it is very straight forward.
