An excellent product ! Used it to replace unreliable similar Philips product on new computer with XP Media Center. Simple to fit - just 2 plugs to connect. Recognised by XP immediately, with no set-up required, other than to run the Nero 6 disc. Plays and records everything it says it does ! Not advised to use Nero 7 upgrade as there are apparently problems with this not connected with the Sony product. Highly recommended !Buy it now !

I bought 2 of these to install into 2 base units - I chose it mainly based on price and DVD-RAM ability. However I have had quite a few problems with installation on both base units. I did an internet search which suggest problems with drivers for this drive (none supplied, although Windows XP appears to recognise it). So maybe it is worth selecting another drive from Amazon which is a couple of pounds more so that you could avoid such potential problems.

Simple to install. Just unplugged the old drive, plugged in this one, booted up Windows XP (it recognised it immediately) and started burning DVDs straight away. No problems at all and good build quality...espcially as it's at the cheap end of the market.

Be aware that all you receive in the box is the DVD writer and it doesn't include any instuctions, drivers or cables. This wasn't a problem for me, as Windows XP doesn't need drivers and I used the existing IDE and power cables in my PC.

This writer is basic, and comes with nothing. But I installed it on my Linux box a few months ago, and it's been writing happily ever since. At the price, I'm satisfied.
