Product Description

Product Description

The band's third album was a more raucous affair, perhaps as a reaction to the huge success of the band and a gruelling series of tours up and down the coast which led to a tentative toe being dipped into the overseas market. Sparked by rough-house rock like Shutdown and Runaway Girls, the album went to Number One and got released in the USA, albeit quietly.

4.0 out of 5 stars Well actually... 21 Sep 2005
Format:Audio CD
Hello,
I've been listening to this band since the early 80's. This is an aussie band, and they are one of the best sounding "pub bands" of that era. That's why I like them, coz I'm quite old and I'm a surfer. Their best album is "Phalanx Live". When I play Australian Crawl then my friends all think it sounds like old men playing in a local pub (thanks Alison) but other surfers (Tony) likes this band. Frankly its the kind of music that you and your guitar playing mates would like to try to learn ....and once you've mastered the songs....play them in your local pub. Aussie Crawl are a clean looking bunch of guys that wrote good pub songs. The are very famous in Australia. I mean they were very famous before. But I still like them coz they do guitar solos and I play guitar.

5.0 out of 5 stars How come this album wasn't an international hit? 19 Oct 2000
By RAFAHN - Published on Amazon.com
Format:Audio CD
The only explanation to this question is very poor marketing from the record company. This album's got some sure hits (Runaway Girls and Daughters of the Northern Coast), strong pop-rock melodies and songs (Letter from Zimbabwe, Downhearted, Live now pay later). On the whole, it is a great album recorded in Hawaii (I gues they tried to enter the US market) and it failed. Can someone please explain to me why Australian Crawl never made it outside their home country?

5.0 out of 5 stars An odd yet classic Aussie album 17 April 2003
By "lah82" - Published on Amazon.com

The first time I ever heard this I thought "What a load of mumbo-jumbo." Thankfully, I persevered with it, and after three or four listens I was happy with my discovery! Despite the eccentric pronunciations, this album has a terrific set of songs. The tempo and beat of the music is very enjoyable. My favourites are Runaway Girls, Shutdown, Midlife Crisis, Letter from Zimbabwe and Happy Song for Problem Children. Give this album a few listens and you'll get used to it. You won't be disappointed.

4.0 out of 5 stars wishing I was there 13 Sep 2005

First heard aussie crawl 20+ yrs ago, and the music then fitted the atmosphere of the time, the cd has brought back many happy memories, It may seem a bit dated to modern times but the rawness of Aussie Rock is still does it for me, get the tinnies chilled the sun block on and give it full volume and you are back on the whitsundays without a care
4.0 out of 5 stars Still one of the best 10 Dec 2012

Thirty years since this album was put together and memories come flooding back. I have been acquiring OZ music from 60-80s to remind myself that our groups and individuals were every bit as good as overseas productions.
Great memories of great music.
Cheers

5.0 out of 5 stars Great Aussy Tunes Mate 12 Oct 2005

I was lucky enough to live "Downunder" when this came out and I just pulled the old LP out that followed me back home to the states and still sounds great. This is one that will grow on you. Was a big hit overseas. I forgot I had this Gem.
