Sons of Anarchy is an adrenalised drama with darkly comedic undertones about a notorious outlaw motorcycle club intent on protecting their sheltered small town against encroaching drug dealers, corporate developers and overzealous law officers. The club is equally determined to protect their ruthless and illegally thriving arms business. Charlie Hunnam stars as Jackson ‘Jax’ Teller, a man whose love for the brotherhood is tested by his growing apprehension for its lawlessness. Katey Sagal stars as Gemma Teller Morrow, Jax’s force-of-nature mother, who along with Ron Perlman as Clarence ‘Clay’ Morrow, Jax’s stepfather and MC President, have their own darker vision for the club.

Format:DVD
I really like this series, because it isn't your regular Glee meets Housewives does Jersey Shore and creates CSI kind of thing. It is gritty, harsh and realistic. Even though it depicts the fictitious motorcycle gang Samcro, it is a eye opening study of gangs like the Hells Angels. How crime is a part of their double lives, as they cope with the walking the plank lifestyle they have chosen. The live it because they believe in the code. It is interesting to see how the discrimination of both gender and race is embedded into their infrastructure, even if not all members believe each rule is valid. Truly a commendable watch and worth an Emmy or ten.

Format:Blu-ray
In this review, I won't be reviewing the series itself (because it should already be clear it's amazing). Instead, I will give you details about the blu-ray edition itself.
The box is very simple, but it looks neat. We're talking about a cardboard box here that's 4.7 cm wide. The cardboard is plasticized, so it should look good on your shelf.
The video quality of this blu-ray is good, especially for a TV-series. The pictures are sharp and the contrast is amazing. The only letdown is that colors (for example of one's skin) are sometimes a but flushed. The audio however is wonderful.
Each season is packaged separately in a thick blu-ray box. Every box contains thirteen episodes and some bonus features, divided over three discs.
Finally, here are some details languages the audio and subtitles:
Season 1
Audio: English 5.1 DTS HD Master Audio (commentaries 2.0 Dolby Digital).
Subtitles: English for the hearing impaired, French.
Season 2
Audio: English 5.1 DTS HD Master Audio (commentaries 2.0 Dolby Digital).
Subtitles: English for the hearing impaired, Cantonese, French, Korean, Portugese, Swedish.
Season 3
Audio: English 5.1 DTS HD Master Audio (commentaries 2.0 Stereo).

Format:DVD
I prefer comedies on the whole but S.O.A. has had me hooked since I first hired a disc on love film. The dual morality is caught quite nicely, especially in the scene where the Sons are running a charity fete then some scenes later doing something awful to remove an ex-member's tattoo. This is a fine ensemble piece with great performances from all of the cast. The music picked compliments the scenes perfectly. And the plots are convoluted, my poor brain. A review on the back of one of the dvd cases sums it up nicely "brutal but brilliant".
