In a frantic battle to the chequered flag, Sonic & SEGA All-Stars Racing sees Sonic and friends speed around tracks set in mediaeval castle ramparts, lush rainforests and bustling cities, all taken from the visually rich and varied universes of Sonic and SEGA. Fan favourites such as Dr. Eggman, Tails, AiAi, Amigo and many more will join Sonic in their custom built vehicles, revving their engines and jostling to stay ahead of the pack. Each character will race around the track in cars, planes, motorbikes, and in AiAi's case a banana mobile! Secret short cuts, swift handling and avoiding strategically placed obstacles are certainly the best way to get to the top of the podium. And winning is only part of the fun in Sonic & SEGA All-Stars Racing! Each character has a specific All Star move such as Super Sonic, Banana Blitz and Tails Tornado, allowing a quick way for competitors to get back into the race! Power ups and weapons can also be collected around the tracks and used against the opposition to ensure they don't become a threat to that number one position Players can battle it out in single or multiplayer mode, allowing up to four friends to race in frantic split-screen action, or up to eight players to compete online in the ultimate racing showdown.Can Amigo scramble Dr. Eggman? Will AiAi say bye-bye to Tails? Are you gonna be faster than Sonic? The race will start in 2010

Fun:
I bought this for my 4 year old son because he has Mario Kart which he enjoys and finds easy to play. This game is great and I would say is just as good as MK. It is pretty much the same to play control wise although you have to press 2 instaed of A for selecting characters and tracks. You can pick from a good range of characters to race including Sonic, Tails, Eggman, Billy Hatcher and Amy. There are lots of different tracks although like MK you start off with some and then have to unlock the rest. The difference with this game is that you don't have to win certain races to unlock things and instead you get money each time you complete a race even if you lose and you use this money to buy things. In my opinion this is better for younger children who may find it harder to win and therefore would not beable to unlock anything. When racing you can choose from grand prix, time trials or single race and there are also challenges to do but these are a bit hard for my son to do yet so i've not looked at them too much. As with MK you pick boxes up on the way around which gives you certain powers to use and each character has one special power ie: Billy Hatcher runs on a giant egg - similar to a Bullet Bill in MK I suppose. It is a bit more challanging than MK even on easy beacuse on MK my son wins quite often whereas on this game I have set it to beginner and he is yet to come 1st in a race. The wheel that comes with this game is good quality!

Fun:
Based on some comparisons with Mario Kart...
Pros:
-Lots of things to unlock, such as characters, courses & music tracks using the 'shopping' mode where you collect & earn 'miles' as tokens to purchase these things by racing etc
-Many other modes such as battles & missions, as well as time trial & all the other jazz you'd expect
-Online Play
-Unique All-Star moves for each character which make them more individual compared with Mario Kart
-The Sega wheel is an added bonus & makes the game kinda more realistic & fun
-If you love speed, this game is for you! Very fast paced feeling compared with Mario Kart which seems a bit too slow sometimes. The drifting makes this game also I feel
-Great graphics & themed courses
-Opa Opa is in the game!!! Very old school!
Cons:
-No ranking system for Online Play - (Personally my biggest let down!)
-All Star moves not available for Online Play (Spose it will be fairer too to stop people from trying to be last in order to get into first place with an All Star move!)
-Sometimes the frame-rate can be a little bit noticeable and laggy
-Quite slow loading times
-No map of the course during race which would have been quite useful, but I guess you would get used to the course after numerous amounts of playtime.

This is just from personal experience ... I didn't warm to Mario Kart on Wii because the layout of the competition and race track options is not flexible and also the graphics let it down especially on split screen playing.
However I took a gamble on buying this Sega racing game instead because the previews looked good and also I like the wheel in this package (it's very similar to the Wii F1 2009 wheel). Within minutes of putting the game on I was hooked. The graphics are phenomenal and superior to many other Wii games I've seen, even in split screen mode. The track choices are excellent and very imaginative in design. The whole game has the feel of a fast, slick and wickedly good fun package. I really like the wheel too. The only reason I don't give an overall 5 star rating is that some more of the classic Sega characters could have been included, but that's a small gripe and you can in any case also use your Mii as driver too.

As good as Mario Kart
This game is great! Just as fun and just as addictive as Mario Kart (and cheaper!) Love it and highly recommend it.

Sonic & Sega win hands down
This was a present for my grandaughter and she absolutely loves it, so does her dad!! She also has endless fun with friends. A hit all round

Mario Kart alternative
Have been a fan of Mario Kart - but frustrated by constant attacks - Sonic is a better driving game but the tracks are difficult to work out i.e. which direction to go. Read more

Ok
Sonic and Sega racing is ok but not as fun as mario kart. The tracks are fab but it is really hard to control and when u fall of things it flashes the logo. Read more
