The early Sonic comics were full of awful puns and goofy storylines, but over the years the series has evolved into an epic spanning long, complex storylines and witty humour in the midst of epic battle scenes.

This book is the culmination of the dedication and hard work of the current Sonic comic staff. A fun, four part story with plenty of great action scenes and funny moments. The story serves as a callback to the earliest Sonic games, bringing back old levels and bosses, which gave me a real sense of nostalgia.

The artwork is simply stunning. Patrick Spaziante, who was one of the earliest artists in the series, returns to provide artwork for the first two parts, while the incredible Tracey Yardley and Ben Bates provide the art for the rest of the series. The three artists have distinct art styles, but not so much that the changes between each issue become jarring. The colouring is bright and beautiful, giving lots of colour to the characters and location. I also have to add that the expression work the artists give is INCREDIBLE. Seriously, it's easily the best I've ever seen. If you're a fan of cartoon-style artwork, you will love this book.

The story is simple but entertaining, and I was rather pleased that it mixed elements from the older games with the newer games. The comic series' current writer, Ian Flynn, is great at tying together new and old plotlines into a fun story that doesn't alienate either old or new fans.

If you haven't read a Sonic comic before, this is a good one to start off with. Because the story is effectively self-contained, yet being part of a greater whole, it's a good place to jump in without feeling overwhelmed by continuity or masses of characters (as the longest running video game based comic, it has a lot!).

Jeez where do I even start with this review.
Not that the flame ever died, but reading through this comic added extra fuel to that inner child flame and rekindled my love for the 90's Sonic video games. The artwork and colouring is spot on. The locations are depicted very well and really give off the feel of the Zones they resemble from the old adventures. (Sonic 1 & Sonic 2 based)

I haven't read any of the previous Sonic Comics, with the exception of 'Sonic Select 6 : The Death Egg Saga' which I purposely read as it was a tie into this book and I wanted to see what I could expect before spending more money on this Masterpiece!
Although I didn't follow the story 100%, that is only down to not reading much into the previous comics before it.
However, with growing up with the classic Sonic games and watching the Cartoon series which was based around the Freedom Fighters, I was able to easily sink into the story and enjoy it. And Enjoy It I truly did.

Id highly recommend this to any long term fans or new comers going through the Sonic comic series.
If you, like me, are unfamiliar with the other comics but have fond memories of the old SEGA games, then Id recommend this simply for the Nostalgic trip down memory lane as we follow Sonic, Tails & The Freedom Fighters through Green Hill, Marble Gardens, Labyrinth, Scrap Brain, Chemical Plant, Oil Ocean, Metropolis zone and finally a brief glimpse at Sky Fortress followed by the notorious DEATH EGG Mk.II

A blast from start to finish.
This book is definitely, "Way Past Cool!"
Get It. Sit down and get comfy. Grab a glass of your favorite beverage and a chili-dog and read this sucker already!

Excellent Book. Sonic at the top of his form. 18 April 2012

Bought this for my son, but I had to read it myself when I saw the quality of the art work. The art's done by two great pencil artists, Tracy Yardley and the legendary Patrick Spaziante (he's always referred to as legendary when I read about him...I'll take their word. He's good). Their work is awesome and varied, with great action and sets. The colors are wonderful, too -- real attention and thoughtfulness was used. The real treat, for me, came in the inks, done by the great Terry Austin (who worked on some classic X-Men comics -- Dark Phoenix Saga, anyone). Terry brings real oomph to an already great package. The writing is cool and lots of fun.

Sega Genesis' Sonic 1, 2, & 3 all wrapped up into one algamated tale of adventure! 29 Dec. 2012

Got this for my son (one of his Christmas gifts) - he loves it. Story line for 'Genesis' is not as dubious as I thought it would be; let me give up a bit of 'spoiler' for this book: Sonic is fighting to make things right from a mistake that was made. It's actually interesting to see two things happen while reading this book with my 10 yr. old: one - his ultimate interest in Sonic and his friends (and how Super Sonic looks alot like Super Saiyan levels 1 or 2 from Dragon Ball Z/GT), and two (if you are a Sonic fan from 1990 and beyond like I still am - 'Sonic 4: Episode III?'), I'm amazed to see Sonic's old friends from his Saturday morning cartoon show that use to come on ABC (along with 'Reboot' - both good shows back then). It's nice to seem them all (visually slightly upgraded) in a new adventure. For Genesis game fans, you'll like the way the next chapter covers look. Overall, I believe this book is a great purchase; my son has already asked me to continue reading this book to him on my next day off of work, and I can't wait. I can only speak from my experience, but for you fathers out there (or even mothers) that would like to bond with your son (or daughter) on a childish yet fun level, this book is a good choice for you.

Sonic Genesis is a great story from the fine people at archie about sega's blue hedgehog. I have always held up sonic as an example of how all ages books should be, its a fun book that reads like a saturday morning cartoon and its not ashamed of it. The writing is good, the art done by Spaz and Tracy Yardley is top notch.

She bought this book herself (age 13) and really likes it.
It has several of the comic books in it and she has read them all, several times.
