I bought an alarm clock from Argos a few days ago to replace my oregon scientific alarm that had died after many years use. The clock from Argos was a standard alarm and I found that when it went off I could not hear it, it was so quiet. I know I am a little hard of hearing but not that bad. I took it back and since then I have tried another 3 alarm clocks in the shop and they are all so very quiet. My hearing problem is on the high frequency bands.

After doing some research on the best type I ordered this Sonic Boom SBA475SS and it is great. It is tone adjustable so if you have a problem hearing high or low frequencies you can set it to suit. There is a bright backlight that can be turned off and the alarm itself can be set for vibrate, sound or both, and of course off. Whatever the setting it flashes quite brightly when it goes off.

It is very easy to use and to see and the buttons etc are easily placed.

However when it goes off Stand Back!!!!!! There is no way you can sleep through this one! If the alarm is not enough, or if you do not want to wake a partner, or the whole street, the vibrating pad on a long lead can be placed under the pillow or on the side table. Under the pillow it will easily wake anyone and on a side table it rattles around so you could not fail to hear it.

An excellent little machine and very versatile and adjustable.

I am deaf ( use a cochlear Implant in the day to hear) So I needed a good alarm clock to wake me to replace my old geemarc. I also work nights so I need a seperate clock from my wifes who works days,
I got my clock from AMAZON promptly as usual on Saturday,No problems setting it up, just plug it in to the mains with the plug supplied and set the clock time ( easy with the two little knobs on the rear of the clock) Same for the alarm setting.

The greatest thing with this clock is it gives a nice blue night light when on, not intrusive just a gentle light to guide your way with out waking your partner.

I have it plugged in to the vibrating device Sonic Boom SBA475SS Analgue Loud Plus Vibrating Alarm Clock - Silveron the rear of the clock which I put inside my lower under pillow, this wakes me with NO problems!!!!!! BUT NOT MY WIFE LOL!

It also buzzes and flashes if you set it to do so. ( (Easy to set with the sliding push rocker switches on the side of the clock)

Looks cool to in retro silver, in all a great clock all round.

I bought this for my 5 year old because he sleeps very deeply. The clock can definitely wake up the neighbours and shake the foundations of the block - my son usually sleeps straight through :-) but we're working on it. It is a little complicated to set all the different aspects of the alarm clock: switch it on by choosing the correct mode (off, vibrate, sound, vibrate and sound), switch on the light, choose the volume, choose the strength of vibration, choose the frequency, set the time, and set the alarm time. But I got used to all this, and I also learned to switch it off by the mode switch, because if you only bosh it on the top, it will come back on after a snooze period and all hell breaks loose again. But I'm not complaining, I wanted lots of options so I can find the one that works best for my son, and after a couple of uses I worked out exactly what I need to switch when. It's a big machine and rather plastic-ky, but it doesn't tick and works exactly as it should. The vibration attachment is awesome, be careful when trying it out for the first time, it could give you quite a shock!

I am subject to increasing deafness and my previous alarm was very quiet which is why I bought this one. It is loud enough to wake the dead so I have total confidence in its ability to wake me up, come what may. I have not yet tried the vibrating device as am content with the sound of the alarm. I like also being able to see the time with one touch of the Snooze button if I wake in the night. A very satisfactory buy.

On several occasions recently I overslept due to hearing loss in my left ear
I knew that vibrating alarm clocks existed and as a result of a search found the Sonic Boom SBA475SS
I made the purchase through Amazon and it was delivered promptly in good condition
I have not overslept since
I use the vibrator pad under my pillow on the lowest setting with the sound turned off
I am wakened by what I would describe a gentle tugging which is more pleasant than a harsh alarm
My only complaint is that the snooze time is not varible and is a bit short at 4 minutes. I would also like a 24 hour setting which would remove the need to reset the alarm each night
I am well pleased with my purchase

I bought this for my profoundly deaf mother as she cannot hear a regular alarm clock. The clock is much bigger than I expected but I am glad of this as my mother is quite elderly and this makes it easier to use as the buttons are larger. She is very pleased with her new clock as she is now woken up on time every morning by the vibrating pad. The only slight negative comment I can mention is that the on/off sliding button could be bigger and more prominent. My mother tends to press the large snooze button when she turns the alarm off but then forgets to actually turn the alarm off by the side slider button. The alarm then goes off again at night at the same time. I think the clock would really benefit by having a larger and more prominent on/off button as older people like my mother, who's hands have arthritis and are not very sensitive don't always know for sure if they have definitely switched the alarm off. Other than that is a really great alarm clock.
