Product Description

Amazon.co.uk Review
Sonic Adventure DX: Director's Cut sees the return of the greatest ever 3-D Sonic game. Of course, describing it thus doesn't exactly put it up against much in the way of stiff competition, but whether we're damning it with faint praise or not Sonic Adventure DX is still as good as polygonal Sonic action has ever got. Originally a Dreamcast launch title, this update sees Sonic and five of his chums yet again attempting to reclaim chaos emeralds from the evil Dr Robotnik.

Despite claims of improved graphics, this still looks very much like a Dreamcast game. Sega have added new lighting and a few other special effects but unfortunately the frame rate and draw distance are all distinctly 1998. Most irritatingly, the camera still hasn't been sorted out; this really does impact on the enjoyment to be had in the otherwise well-designed action levels.

Indeed, as a so-called "director's cut" this is a bit of a failure--except when it comes to the hidden extras, which include over 60 bonus games and all 12 Sonic titles for the Game Gear (Sega's powerful but short-lived answer to the Game Boy). The fact that it's so time-consuming to unlock most of these extras is highly frustrating and means that only hardcore Sonic fans are going to get the best out of a re-release that has missed opportunities. --David Jenkins

Manufacturer's Description
The renowned classic Sonic Adventure makes a speedy return as Sonic Adventure DX, featuring newly revamped graphics and an all-new mission feature that delivers never-before-seen gameplay modes to the GameCube. Combining action stages with adventure elements, this is the ultimate Sonic title.

The game takes place on planet Earth; evil Dr Robotnik has returned and is eager to begin his plans for world domination by the destruction of Station Square where he plans to build his twisted Utopian vision of Robotnikland. He has a scheme to use the seven Chaos Emeralds to empower the Chaos monster, which grows each time it consumes one of these magical Emeralds. Sonic becomes entangled in this sinister plot, enlistiing the help of his friends to foil Robotnik's every move and prevent the Chaos monster from becoming more powerful.

Fun:4.0 out of 5 stars
Buy this sonic game by all means(Its not the best) and its rather easy, but its still exelent.

The Graphics are beutiful.

The Gameplay is fantastic

The Controls are easy to use(YAY)!

Each sonic Character has a different(Or part the same) story.

Each characters has 10 to 5 stages action stages(Which is rather short) but the final story is super hard.

Sonic fans buy this!

4.0 out of 5 stars Sonic Adventure DX: Is it the same?, 2 Jul 2003
By Ben Taylor (Lancashire Uk) - See all my reviews
(REAL NAME)
Sonic Adventure on the Dreamcast brought back the memories for most Sonic fans and obviously was a big hit. Now Gamecube fans can play this fantastic game themselves on the Gamecube and live the magic! The graphics have remained unchanged from the Dreamcast version, but the game IS NOT just a port. It offers a unique connectibilty feature from the Gamecube to the Gameboy Advance as well as 12! game gear games to unlock along your way and also boasting 60 new missions in a mission mode. You can play as 6 different characters, featuring favourites such as Sonic, Tails, Amy and Knuckles and also newbies such as Big The Cat and E 102-Y. Each character has different missions each time and can play in a variety of ways with their special abilities (e.g. Tails-Flying). And as always the cutie Chaos are back, so all in all a very good game, but not perfect due to no graphical improvments, but thats all.

WE SAY: BUY IT

Game Out: NOW

2.0 out of 5 stars Hmm... not good, 9 Jun 2004
By Abhorsen (Malvern, Worcs United Kingdom) - See all my reviews
i brought this game while i was on holiday because my friend reccomended it,and i was quite looking forward to it but when i tried it out i wasnt that pleased. you see, its a remake of sonic adventure on the ill fated dream cast (which i did actually want to get). the general idea is that you take control of sonic, amy, tails, big or gamma and lead them off on their own story... not the way i see it.the stories all basically completley the same! graphics arent that bad, odd glich every now or then but the camera is rubbish, it always gets stuck in walls. music is ok genrally.voice acting is the worst ive ever seen and heard.it was quite fun to play the first time but it is short. vvveeerrryyy short,i completed it in about 2 days.the replay value is bad because youll only want to go on it once and do mabye some missions. i should have listened to reviews in nintendo magazines. i reccomend it to only hardcore sonic fans (and i thought i was one).i dont want to be to hard on the game but it just doesnt get my vote.
