After seeing Sonia live last week at Stoke's Pride Festival, i thought i just gotta dig out the old cd's and blast them out one more time. Sonia is one of those artists who unfortunately dissolved with vinyl, the only fault i have with this cd is the 3 singles that were released from it - 3 cover versions (urrrggghhh!), when the finest vocals and Sonia's best ever songs were sitting helplessly within this disc, I'm Not Gonna Play Around No More, Say Goodbye To Me and Strong Without You - all these 3 would have given Sonia Top 5 placings i am sure, but the management at the time (Mr. Simon Cowell), put out cover versions instead. Sonia never recovered from her 80's early 90's peak, which is a damb shame because she has a good voice on her, and a cheeky cheeky grin - this cd will please 80's fans the world over, as it's danceable, mixable and very very friendly.

After huge success with her PWL debut you would expect Sonia to know a good song when she heard it. Unfortunately most of these songs sound the same. Even the ones Sonia co-wrote! This disc isnt awful, in fact its rather fun once you accept that shes going to spend the NEXT few albums doing remakes! What was lacking from this disc was a new sound. PWL gave her something to start with, and instead of branching out and experimenting, Sonia was saddled with songs that sound like oldies. A few singles did really well in the UK (Only fools, You to me are everything & Be young, be foolish..) and in fact "Be young, be foolish.." actually charted on the US AC charts. So, im sure she was pleased, but i doubt she expected to sing two more albums worth of oldies! I wouldnt list this as a MUST HAVE, but if you have to have all her recordings, start with her debut "Everybody knows".
