Over one hour of the great early hits of Elvis Presley back-to-back for the first time with the original artists that inspired his work and their songs that he covered. Including Elvis Presley, Carl Perkins, Little Richard, Arthur Crudup, Kay Starr, Billy Emerson and many more.

Take an educational journey of a young Elvis Presley and a generation of performers and songs that have inspired the work of the King.

This is the second CD of songs that inspired Elvis Presley - the theme of the CD is to showcase songs that influenced Elvis and which he went on to record. This is an extremely effective way of showing what a talented singer Elvis was - Elvis has taught me a lot about different styles of music as he was a diverse performer who refused to be labelled or stick to one genre and I always wanted the opportunity to listen to other versions of his songs to compare - this CD does not disappoint - whilst many of the originals are great in their own right, just listen to Roy Hamilton, Billy Emerson, Arthur Crudup, The Eagles, Lloyd Price Arthur Gunter and of course the irrepressible Little Richard - although some of the country singers definately needed help - listening to Elvis' take on these song shows what an originator and unique singer he was and his version of all - except perhaps Little Richard's Long Tall Sally - may not always beat but always match or improve on these classic songs. I can't wait for volume 3 - a must for music lovers everywhere whatever their taste in music - listen to a master at work.

The songs that inspired the King Vol 2
Some old R&B, some crooners, and Chuck Berry - alternatively insterspersed with Elvis.
Oh!.

the musical world thru elvis' ears 14 Jan 2008
By PonyGirlUp! - Published on Amazon.com
Format: Audio CD
i am very glad to have this cd. i like collecting the original recordings that influenced elvis. one of the reasons i enjoy being a fan of elvis is the interest his songs created in me to explore other music, and to investigate everything that he heard and enjoyed. the search led me to fall in love with do wop, r&b and early c/w.

i have other cd's that have explored his musical roots. this definitely is a welcome addition. there are several missing songs i did not have.

my favorite is Joshua Fit De Battle. elvis copied the Golden Gate Quartet exactly in his recording for the His Hand in Mine LP. what a treat to hear this!

i need to address an 'error' on this compilation. 'Oh Happy Day' , as covered by elvis, was the spirtual performed by the Edwin Hawkins Singers, not even close to the song on this cd. the song was also covered by glen campbell. both recordings did well on the charts in the early 70's. the 'oh happy day' on this cd i had never heard before.

i would have preferred this cd to contain the 'Hound dog' done by Freddie Bell; that is what elvis was covering, not Mama Thornton, altho i am sure he knew of that original. it is still valuable here since elvis would have known her version.

kitty lester's version of 'love letters' is also what should have been on here. when you listen to elvis' version, you can see the obvious relation. so why put any other on here?

in all, as a collection of songs from the 30s and 40s and 50s it is an enjoyable listen. for an elvis fan who craves to know what went on in elvis head, musically, this is a valuable asset, except for the items i mentioned above.

still recommended for the serious fan who likes to 'study' elvis' musical influences.

Bought this for a friend who was looking for a very obscure song, and the only recording I could find was on this disc. She loves it, all the songs are by the origional artists.
Only One Song Wanted 13 May 2007
By R. William Pratt - Published on Amazon.com
Format: Audio CD
I purchased this CD to acquire one song and only one song; Oh Happy Day by Don Howard. The song is extremely, almost impossible, to acquire in any other way except via download from a proprietary web site. In spite of my limited need for this CD, I nonetheless found it immensely entertaining due to its including so many old, old songs I listened to and enjoyed as a young man. Sometimes when you're searching for a small stone you luckily find a diamond. This was, for me, one of those times.
