This 56 minute CD of songs and sketches has been compiled by EMI from the Hal Roach produced Laurel and Hardy film soundtracks. And, it's obvious that effort has gone into making a worthy release.

Songs such as "Trail of the Lonesome Pine", "At the Ball" and "Way down South" as well as "Let Me Call You Sweetheart" have surely been mastered from good quality sound tapes.

What the CD does best of all is to effectively showcase Oliver Hardy's vocal inflections and his signing ability to great effect. Equally, T. Marvin Hatley scored the wonderful incidental music that follows the duo's antics wherever they venture.

Such is the underlying strength of Stan Laurel's script writing that sketches like "Furniture Payment", "Fresh Fish", "Hard Boiled Eggs and Nuts", "The New Recruits" and "Where Were You Born?" could have originally been made for a sound only medium; you don't need moving images, just your imagination, to appreciate what is going on between the subjects here.

The CD booklet contains a couple of nice photos of the boys, too.

Almost certainly the best aspect about this CD is that you can relax and picture Laurel and Hardy in your mind's eye, ambling through various scrapes and embarrassing social situations along with Hatley's engaging background music which brings the whole thing to life.

Finally, if you enjoy collecting Laurel and Hardy memorabilia from Amazon, then why not also join the Sons of the Desert (Helpmates as it is alternatively known in the U.K.), the fan club solely dedicated to preserving the memories and films of these two great comedians?

This one has sketches & a few songs; will bring up great memories. There is another CD AT THE BALL which is more tunes & songs with a rare sketch where they toured in Britain which I liked better. It has a jazzed up CALL OF THE CUCKOO which is a treat to hear BUT this one is still great stuff!!!
