Product Description

CD Description

'Songs Of Mass Destruction' is ex-Eurythmics and British pop icon Annie Lennox's fourth album. Recorded with veteran producer Glen Ballard this release pushes boundaries, both with its content and sound. As Lennox's most personal album it infuses raw, intelligent and emotional lyrics with a melodic, haunting and sometimes soaring sound. It also includes thetrack 'Sing' which sees Annie collaborating with 23 of the most successsful female artists of all time such as Madonna,Celine Dion, Gladys Knight and many more.

5.0 out of 5 stars SOMD smashes others to smithereens, 8 Mar 2008
By J. J. Mcgirr "Hitherman" (London UK) - See all my reviews
(REAL NAME)
Being a complete Annie fan right from the days of The Tourists, I always get a real sense of anticipation when I hear that Ms Lennox is chucking out another album. I heard about this one some time before the release date and loved the title. It's a stab at the whole WMD and Anglo-American war on terror. In this vein, Dark Road, the first single released from the album continues with it's subtle chastisement of America and it's myopic world view. Annie is a clever one! even the video in which she potrays the defunct and powerless heroine witnessing the plight of those less fortunate in the richest country in the world she does so with a grace not found in any other contemporary singer. The song itself is a tour of Annie's vocal talent and eloquently displays her songwriting skills. Moving through the album, I am reminded of her origins in the brilliantly retro synth sounds which eminate from Coloured Bedspread, the haunting ballad of Smithereens and the warm and upbeat Sing. This is one of my favourites, It's a testament to Ms Lennox's influence and the respect she has from her peers that such a line up of international female stars can be found here. Interestingly only two voices come out above Annie, the first is Madonna, who manages to get a verse on her own- one imagines that it may well have been a condition of her inclusion, notably is Joss Stone who's imploring to join in rises above the roar with a power akin to Annie. The girl can sing!. The final song, Fingernail Moon is a touching ballad which is perfectly placed to close the album. Nevertheless you will find yourself playing it again so that the real depth of each song can be understood. This is an eclectic mix of songs, RnB, Soul, african folk, with a touch of rock and electro thrown in. Anyone else trying to shove all this into one album would struggle but with Annie's crystalline vocals the random becomes ordered and the pieces become whole.
I have a natural bias towards this artist and make no apology for it. However, trust me, get the album and you wont be dissapointed.

5.0 out of 5 stars Heavenly Lennox, 7 Nov 2007
This album needs an enhanced star score - perhaps 100 stars by this scale is more fitting.

Annie Lennox is the best of the best. The Womankind track is just the ticket. This CD has everything - plus some. Loved the Diva - Medusa albums, etc. Songs of Mass Destruction delivers on all scores, background information, authenticity and heart. Like the best red wine this has a rich flavour and fabulously different tracks, hitting all the right notes.

I love it - a beatiful combination. Thank you Annie for the lovely music. You and your music are heavenly.

A very distinctive collection of songs that leave you wanting more.
She is lyrically speaking a shear poetical genius- from the beautiful Fingernail Moon to Big Sky and Coloured Bedspread. Buy it! You won't be disappointed!
A maze journey of crystal clear songs with just a touch of destruction- pure genius!
