Anthony Newley stands out in this CD. He doesn't just sing the songs, he performs the part.

where is the love? 9 July 2001
By M. farrell - Published on Amazon.com
Format: Audio CD
you feel the love of oliver...the desparate need of his love...right from the beginning and how he eventually makes even those who don't want love in their lives to open their lives to his goodness...lionel bart's score is probably one of the most brilliant ever written....and though it is a compilation cd...it needed more of anthony newley.....newley and bart were as one in their feelings and their talents for the musical stage...and they both made incredible contributions that will live forever...this cd weakens that force because it lost its control..it's love..somewhere....i'd do anything to hear newley sing lionel bart..period. their music was food...glorious food. when you want to hear an englishman's music...sung by a one of his peers..who do you turn to? to tony, of course.

the awtful musical 18 Jun 2001
By M. farrell - Published on Amazon.com
Format: Audio CD
it is so simple and yet so instrincicly staged...you forget it was just a charles dickens tale...you are lost in oliver twist land...you care about the people....even the people who don't really care about other people....the show reaches you on such a deep emotional level...you feel you'd do anything to see it again.
