1 of 1 people found the following review helpful By D. Bevan on 18 Sept. 2012
Format: Paperback
This book provides an excellent introduction to, and fresh translation into English of, the Carmina Gadelica -- indigenous (Scottish) Gaelic Christian songs and prayers collected by Alexander Carmichael during the 19th century. As well as containing a selection of the songs, there are also sections describing the process of collection and publication, and some of the scholarly debate concerning their authenticity. This book does not contain the Gaelic versions of any of the songs.

3 of 4 people found the following review helpful By Mr. G. Ferguson on 8 Aug. 2009
Format: Paperback
Carmina Gadelica is a hidden gem. Very often the culture of our Islands has been neglected at best, or discriminated against at worst. This book throws light on the spirituality of the people of the Western Isles and should be used in our schools (in Scotland). It can be a study of poetry and/or worship in Celtic Spirituality.

Short reflective prayers which gives you a feel of a long lost Celtic tradition.
