Product Description

Coco Montoya releases his double CD set on RUF Records, Songs From The Road, a next best thing to being there version of the great white knuckle rock and roll of this great guitarist and his crushing band. Push play and your front room transforms into the front row. Shut your eyes and you almost feel the crush of the crowd, the heat of the tube amps and the security barrier at your chest. "Ladies and gentlemen, welcome to The Triple Door. Please welcome… Coco Montoya!" By now, you'll doubtless be familiar with Ruf Records' Songs From The Road concept. The blues scene's best-loved live series is driven by the philosophy of placing a world-class artist in a real-world venue with an up-for-it crowd, then catching the sparks with premium recording equipment and a heavyweight producer. In 2014, this latest release sticks to the winning formula, showcasing a classic Coco Montoya show at Seattle's famous Triple Door venue on August 17, 2012 and August 18, 2013 with producer Jim Gaines taking charge of a mix that's as potent as the performance. If you dig the studio cuts, then you'll love these live readings. And if you're yet to discover the genius of Coco Montoya, Songs From The Road's cherrypicked setlist is a great place to kick-start your collection. Play it loud.

For those unsure who Coco Montoya is, an American singer/guitarist. In the eighties he was a member of John Mayall's Bluesbreakers alongside Walter Trout. He followed in the footsteps of Eric Clapton, Mick Taylor and Peter Green. Learning to play from blues guitar legend Albert Collins. Made his first solo album in 1994, has since made several all very excellent releases. Many have in reviews said what a superb live artist he is ,, along with his band he did two dates in a Seattle venue in August 2013, and this is the result, and a mighty fine set it is,Songs from his solo albums, plus a couple of choice covers make up this fourteen song set. He has a great tenor voice and is a master of the guitar still with traces of his Albert Collins days in there. The band is very tight, all of them excellent musicians in thier own right.
This is a high quality and very exciting release by one of todays great bluesmen, live album of the year come awards time, highly recommended.

My favourite CD of all time and seeing Coco & his band live, earlier this year, was a never to be forgotten experience. Coco has 3 brilliant musicians, who tour with him, and Brant Leeper, in particular, is a fantastic keyboard player who features very strongly on all of the tracks. "Don't go making plans" & "Good days, bad days", whilst very different, are perhaps my personal favourites but don't let that take anything away from the rest of the songs, which combine to make this a top CD, worth its place in any collection.

A great live album finally. The only disappointment was that a DVD wasn't included.
