This CD is a re-release of a 50s record and has been really well re-mastered. lots of authentic French nursery rhymes and a few that you will recognise like the FRench version of 'Old macdonald' and 'who's afraid of the big bad wolf?' The tunes are catchy and you pick up more words each time you listen. It shouldn't be too hard to google the song titles so that you have the words for each nursery rhyme. There will be websites that provide an English translation of the best-known songs too, which is always helpful. I also got the 'FREnch playground' CD on the recommendation of the other reviewer, and whilst I like the tunes which are authentic and culturally diverse (France, Quebec, Maroc etc.)and the words and a translation of each song are provided, which is very helpful, FRench pLayground is definitely a misnommer. French cultural playground would be more accurate as the songs are more folky than nursery rhymes and more for adults than children. I can't imagine any FRench kids singing them in school, whereas they will definitely have learnt lots of the nursery rhymes onthe 'Songs in FRench for children.' This is the one to buy if you want something reasonably simple that you will benefit from more with each listen, and your kids will definitely be singing along soon. It does help if you have some knowledge of FRench yourself, so you can explain the songs to your kids.

Beautiful French Songs 26 April 2008
Format:Audio CD
A great buy for anyone who wants to introduce French to children, and also for anyone who loves traditional, heart-warming French songs.

Only disappointment is that the songs don't come with words. I was intending to teach some of the songs at school so will have to find the lyrics online in order to do this now. Otherwise highly recommended.

This is s really lovely little French CD, the songs are in the style of 1950's Disney film scores, they are fun and charming. Much better to listen to these types of CD to absorb some French than spend hundreds on Muzzy. Of course it is great to learn all that too, but to begin with, just playing french music and singing along has to be one of the best ways to learn French. I would also highly recommend Putumayo 'French Playground' CD - more contemporary than this album but equally charming, fun and irresistably catchy!

Absolutely marvellous.
My kids love this, especially the younger one (6 when I bought it) who likes to sing along. He often sings phrases, with a lovely natural accent copied straight from the song. Read more

Songs in French for Children
Overall this CD is good, but from my point of view (not being able to speak much French) it would be nice to have the words printed in the cover so we could try to learn them. Read more
