More Songs 24 Jan 2006
By Mark Champion - Published on Amazon.com
Format: Audio CD Verified Purchase
When Virgin Records released 1985's SONGS on CD in 1986, much of the album had been remixed and/or re-recorded. This CD includes for the first time on CD the original version of that album, along with the 1990 live album CRASH OF LIGHT which also has never before had official CD release. The airy, shimmering lead-off 'Come Summer' (it was a single) heralds a change in both sound and lyrics for the Lippis, from the early post-punk goth-meets-Eno to a more 'sophisticated' and radio-ready pop group. This isn't necessarily bad, but singer Per Oystein Sorensen often sounds like he wants to sound like Peter Murphy fronting OMD. Sometimes it works. In any case it sounds almost nothing like IN SILENCE and not much like SMALL MERCIES, although listened to sequentially the transition seems perfectly natural which is remarkable in itself. Not being much a fan of live albums, I can't say much for CRASH OF LIGHT other than it's live and the sound quality is very good . . . but it's certainly nice to finally have the original version of SONGS in this format. It sounds great and the band was at its creative peak.

A Rare treat 5 May 2007
By Thomas Davison - Published on Amazon.com
Format: Audio CD
Ive been searching for this album of and on for the last ten years. I originally found it in a record store in Norway the day after seeing AHA playing a live gig on the harbour in Oslo. Needless to say I bought a copy and friends liked it so much they borrowed it, never to return. The next time, I found a copy in a second hand store it became a rare item) at Camden markets in North London. I put it in my portable cd player and whoosh..It brougth back those hazzy days of fjords and elephant beer.

Ive now finally got a new copy coming and guess what? Nobody is borrowing it ever again. Its trully "Coming home!"

This group and the album makes good for wine bars, dinner parties and countryside cruises on a sunny afternoon with your mates.

There is more! 20 July 2006

I am lucky enough to have bought this on LP back in the 80's (was it that long ago?). I bought it because of it's artwork (something I used to do regularly- I think that was easier with albums over cd's - maybe because of the size??), anyway it is a great album. I wasn't aware of other albums being available, but good to see there is. This one is now on my laptop and therefore on my MP3 player....really nice album.....

I love it! 20 April 2006

I bought this album on cassette when it was first released when I was still a young teen. I still love listening to it even after all these years! I proceeded to purchase their next three albums, Light and Shade and Small Mercies. Seeing them live in concert made it complete. I am quite surprised that they decided to release it on CD at last.

Fading Poetry 17 Aug 2006
By Saldinger - Published on Amazon.com
Format: Audio CD
I remember listening to this album when it was released in France back in the mid 80s by Virgin. It was probably the only band from Norway to make it into European nightclubs with A-ha. The name of the group was in itself a riddle (like A-ha's), maybe a reference to Robert Browning's poem, or the Italian renaissance painter, and the pic on the front cover was beautiful.

This reedition disappointed me though : the most famous tracks have been remixed and "Shouldn't have to be like that" has lost its steam compared to the original release. Some tracks that were on the tape also seem to have been dumped from the CD, like the beautiful instrumental "The Heather on the Hills" or "The True Story". As a result I was maybe expecting too much from the live tracks that were added here. The fact is, Fra Lippo Lippi's concert performance is not exactly torrid.

Overall a big disappointment.
