Brit folk supremo in early home-brew solo mode...,

Recorded with King Crimson drummer Mike Giles amongst others, this is a lovely mid 70s release with bonus tracks by this perennially under-regarded Brit folk singer-songwriter and it's well worth the price of entry. Copies of the original vinyl fetch eye-watering prices not simply because it's hard to find (Tilston released it himself on a home-brew label) but because it serves to confirm that the guy has talent in spades. Well-crafted songs, beautifully played (he's got to be one of England's finest acoustic guitarists) and languidly-voiced. Where others trumpet singular achievements, Tilston dashes his off, almost embarrassed to hang about for the applause, and moves on to the next album. He hung about with the likes of Drake N. and Jansch B. and is almost permanently on the road to this day. Google him and the rest is history.

This was a huge favourite when my sister had it on vinyl in the late 1970s. I knew every track and just heard it through the walls. I have had a cassette tape of it for years before realising you could get it on CD. Now listening all the time. An absolute gem of Brit Folk, right up there with Penguin Eggs and Liege and Liefe. Go Buy...;

Song from the Dress Rehearsal is a long lost album by Steve Tilston, and it adds significantly to his other available material. In my opinion any album by Steve Tilston is worth buying, simply because the music is so memorable, strong, and vibrant. I myself would buy any album by Steve Tilston, even one of him singing the phone book - because Steve Tilston is an English treassure. Song from the Dress Rehearsal is a great album, and well worth buying. Steve Tilston will not disapoint you, because he is a sublime writer, singer, and musician.
I throughly recommend this album. Five stars, buy it.Songs From The Dress Rehearsal
