Product Description

Review

'Informed by a wealth of historical, social, political and cultural background material about the Midwest, Song of the North Country is a major work about the roots of Dylan's genius. It also casts a fresh and telling light on many Dylan songs, which often feel newly-minted in a series of illuminating readings. This is a serious work of Dylan scholarship and is not to be missed.' --The Bridge

'From wordplay and pronunciation in the chapter ''And the Language That He Used,'' to the influence of education, politics, religion and the judicial system upon Dylan in 'Bob Dylan's Prairie Populism,' it might be said there's something for everyone amid these 303 pages.' --http://davidmarxbookreviews.wordpress.com

Product Description

This is a remarkably fresh piece of Dylan scholarship, focusing on the profound impact that his Midwestern roots have had on his songs, politics, and prophetic character. In the 1966 "Playboy" interview, Dylan said, 'I'm North Dakota-Minnesota-Midwestern...I speak that way. I'm from someplace called Iron Range. My brains and feelings have come from there'.

This is a gem of a book. Not only important for Dylan fans, but also for how it uses Dylan to examine aspects of life we all should be examining within ourselves. Read it and learn something about Dylan, and even more about yourself.
