Unfortunately, some of the characters covered are plainly boring and could have been cut without loosing anything in regards to the main plot - that is how unimportant they are. In addtion, the opening scene provides a very interesting outlook and room for lots of development... and never gets revisited in the entire book (there is only one short scene in a later book that reconnects a little bit to the opening scene of this one)!!!
I somehow wished, books 4 and 5 of the series had been shortened a lot and the plot made a lot more coherent and faster-paced.
