Fans of Snow Patrol, Belle & Sebastian, Alfie, Idlewild ( ug ), Arab Strap, Mull Historical Society et al can buy this album with complete confidence. To the uninitiated, it could serve as an appetiser for any of the above ( most particularly Snow Patrol, as it's predominently a Gary Lightbody project )

The mood here is far brighter than on the previous, more experimental "Y'all get scared now..." and the line-up of Glasgow-centric collaborators ( 27, though it seems far from crowded ) have put together an unashamedly melodic set of songs.

Guitars feature heavily, largely acoustic, and various bods lend gentle vocals to songs of love and loss which charm and cheer in equal measure. Standout tracks would be "You are my joy", which might've been number one in a Universe without Simon Cowell and Chris Moyles in it, and Aidan Moffat's glorious closer "Whodunnit ?"

Warmly recommended and a satisfaction guaranteed purchase for Indie fans with an ear for a good tune.

I first heard of the reindeer section a couple of years ago, when I found out that Belle and Sebastian (one of my favourite bands) were contributing to the project. I never bought the first album but since buying this, I haven't listened to anything else. It's an album which offsets raw emotion and heartbreak with some beautiful instrumentation, including some B&S style orchestral backing music. It is simply gorgeous music to just lie down and wrap yourself up in. A delight to listen to every time it hits your speakers.

Collaborating artists include some of the leading lights of the Scottish indie scene - including B&S, the Zephyrs, Snow Patrol (Irish but y'know), Arab Strap etc. As a fan of all these bands, it was perhaps inevitable that I was going to like this, particularly as it takes all the best elements from these bands and mixes them together, while the sheer number of contributors has seemingly served as a filter to completely eradicate any poor tracks.

Pure class start to finish.

I bought this album on the strength of the review in The Times, not having heard any of The Reindeer Section's previous work, but I wasn't disappointed- all the songs on here, without exception, are so heart-wrenchingly beautiful they made we want to cry! The lyrics are incredibly touching, and they are coupled with quiet, simple melodies to make songs that are impossible to dislike. This album is like hot chocolate for ears... warm, sweet and perfect if you're feeling depressed.
