I first heard Alison Wedding, by chance, at the 55Bar in New York in 2009. She was the support act for Mike Stern, the bar's resident guitarist and the reason why I went along that Monday night in late July 2009. How I wished I had arrived earlier to catch the whole of Alison's act. It was a revelation. My immediate reaction was that this was yet another young Ella wannabe, but as I listened further it became apparent that she had a style and delivery that was all her own. The depth of emotion and expression that she brought to each song in her sweet, yet seductive alto voice will stay with me forever. She has an amazing gift for improvisation, a strong technique and an appealing intonation.

When I returned to the U.K., I bought this for my wife who was equally moved by Alison's performance. It comes close to capturing that night and the feelings that she conveyed through her songs. These are all Alison's own songs by the way, of which there are fifteen over seventy blissful minutes. I urge you to buy this CD and give this artist the recognition that she truly deserves.

Alison - if you should ever read this, please do a European tour sometime soon.

A gem 11 Feb 2006
By D. J. Barber - Published on Amazon.com
Format: Audio CD
Pour yourself a glass of your fav liquid refreshment, make yourself comfortable and then let this album do the rest. I heard Alison Wedding for the first time in Sept 05 at a Jazz club in Melbourne, Australia called Bennets Lane. They played a number of songs during their sets from the upcoming album, Sometimes I feel, and it is an apt title for Alison's music. It makes you feel. It is a fusion of jazz and other disciplines, 5 out of 10 may even remind you of Evanescence, but the versatility of Alison's beautiful voice and the outfit she is playing with, nailed it with most of the songs on this album. The only minor annoyance I had was with the minimalist style of the bass player, who when given the opportunity to shine during a solo on a couple of numbers, really didn't impress me. Keevers and particularly Steve Magnusson are consumate professionals though, a feast for the ears live as well as on a studio album. Just listen to Steve play solo on the second song, Bring me back to life and you should be impressed. I was impressed enough to buy the album after being blessed to hear them. This is one of those albums that sticks in the player. It is very morish.
