Mediterranean Magic 16 July 2005
By Alejandra Vernon TOP 1000 REVIEWER
Format:Audio CD
Mario Frangoulis' gorgeous voice and the exquisite material chosen for this CD make it an outstanding musical experience. It has glorious melodies, and the warmth and passion of his native Greece, with an international flair. Mario sings in 4 languages, and the songs range from operatic to an upbeat, marvelous rendition of the Neapolitan "Luna Rossa," but the entire CD has a cohesiveness in its mood and quality. The arrangements by Steve Wood and the musicianship throughout are superb, lush and lovely, and well balanced with Mario's powerful Voice.

The highlight for me is "Sometimes I Dream," a fantastic interpretation of Puccini's aria from "Tosca," "E lucevan le stelle," to which Mario and Steve have added some music and lyrics, and the result is an utterly fabulous song. Another inspired choice is the Moody Blues hit from decades ago, "Nights in White Satin," which is sung with Justin Hayward, the original Moody Blues member who wrote the song.

Accomplished in many areas, Mario is an actor who has performed everything from Shakespeare to the musical "Grease." He is also a violinist, a winner of the Maria Callas Prize, as well as having had a scholarship to New York's famed Juilliard School of Music, and being the only student of the great opera singer Alfredo Kraus. The packaging of the CD is top notch, with the lyrics in their original language with English translations, and lots of photos of this handsome singer, who is sure to be one of the world's big superstars in the coming years, if he continues this level of excellence. Total playing time is 57'26.

Perfection 19 May 2004
Format:Audio CD
I treated myself to this album for my birthday. I hadn't heard any of the tracks and so gambled that it was the sort of music that I liked. I was not disappointed, what an album this is. My favourite track is the outstanding Nights In White Satin, a duet with Justin Hayward of the Moody Blues. Other amazing tracks are:- Night Wants To Forget, Sometimes I Dream, Buongiorno Principessa, Naturaleza Muerta a duet with Sarah Connor, and Vincero Perdero.

If you like similar singers like Alessandro Safina, then this is the album for you, you will not be disappointed. It has plenty of Spanish guitar and orchestral tones sprinkled into the tracks. Trust me, this album will have you conducting your arms around after the first track. The neighbours will think you've gone mad, but who cares when you're listening to music and a voice of this quality. Outstanding!

He has an operatic, breathy, and rich voice that complements every song there is in the CD. The clever mixing of different styles in a song like Night Wants to Forget, and the title song Sometimes I Dream, a pop version of Puccini's E Lucevan Le Stelle, says it all about the artist. I now consider this song my all time favorite. He is truly a multi-talented singer that deserves all the stars in the heavens. Vincero Perdero, is a touching song, the Neopolitan tune Luna Rossa, makes you want to dance. Nights in White Satin.....this song can make you teary-eyed. Mario sang the Italian adaptation, and Justin Hayward, still sounds great in singing the English vocals. Overall, this blend of Mediterranean flavors is truly a masterpiece by this young upcoming artist. Bravo!!!!! I hope he achieves the greatness and success he so rightfully deserve. More power to you Mario. I also highly recommend his DVD (live concert of Sometimes I Dream) and witness a great performance that will hypnotize you. Addictive is the right word to describe his works. Go and buy his CD and DVD right now. You sure won't regret having done so. Enjoy and happy listening.
