Seriously, how many ways can a quick spot of pampering go wrong? While getting her floors refurbished, Assistant US Attorney Cameron Lynde books into a five-star hotel for a severely expensive massage, a good night's sleep and a luxury breakfast in the morning. Except things don't go quite to plan. But if she thought her naughty noisy neighbours were bad, the dead body was worse. And to top it all off, the investigation's going to be led by the man who thinks she tried to ruin his career.
A week back in Chicago and FBI Agent Jack Pallas is face-to-face with the reason he's just spent three years in nowhere. Except this murder is not the welcome-back prank he suspected, and with Cameron the only witness to this potentially high-profile crime, he'll have to get over his bad feelings fast, before the murderer comes to call.
It's just that without all that dislike getting in the way, neither can help noticing that the other is looking mighty fine...
Julie James is a master at high-tension chemistry and humour, and when this pair aren't striking sparks off each other, things are laugh out loud fun. With another couple who can't stand the sight of each other (on the surface, at least), James is on familiar ground, especially with a sassy, intelligent and independent woman facing down her man. Cameron is more than a match for the brooding, dangerous Jack, especially since she has a better sense of humour.
Amidst all the tension - and building danger of the plot - there's an excellent supporting cast, not least best-friend Collin, Jack's work partner Wilkins, and Officers Phelps and Kanin, to help keep the humour flowing. Cute, hot and exciting, this tale romps along with daring and danger right alongside a surprisingly sweet romance. Is it really a year until her next book?
