Product Description

The World In One Country - A combination of international and local culture with tradition, diversity and a majestically vibrant country has produced a fusion of cuisine that is undeniably South African. The author has developed this cookbook to provide an insight into the stunning range of traditional and modern cuisine from The Rainbow Nation . Proudly South African, the author has already established a South African influenced Restaurant, Phezulu Bistro, in Bangor, Northern Ireland. Through the restaurant and the cookbook the author has aspired to present a simple introduction to the cultural fusion of flavours within South African cuisine. From the simplest of dishes to the sophisticated marriage of flavours you can enjoy preparing each of these recipes to produce a tantalising South African experience.

About the Author

I was blessed to have been born in the extraordinary country that is South Africa, where from as early as I can remember I was introduced to the wealth of flavours and taste experiences that South Africa has to offer. From the simplest of Dutch style cooking to the complex marriage of flavours in Cape Malay cuisine I was fortunate to have access to this fusion of cultural cooking from a young age. From my early years living in Hillcrest outside of Durban to my frequent travels around the country, I have been privileged to have had first-hand experience of not only the wonderful food but also the excellent South African wines. Now living in Northern Ireland I have, with great pride, established a South African influenced Restaurant, Phezulu Bistro, in the coastal town of Bangor, County Down. Through the restaurant I have aspired and strived to bring the British and Irish public an introduction to South African cuisine. Proudly South African I believe that everyone should experience the breathtaking beauty and cultural diversity that South Africa has to offer. Based on my frequent journeys and culinary influences I have created this book to provide a simple introduction to South Africa and the cultural fusion of flavours. Beyond the food South Africa has earned itself a rightful place as one of the best wine producing countries on a global scale. With this success and achievement no winery has been more recognised and rewarded within South Africa than that of Nederburg. As a chef I believe that great food should be prepared and served with wine that truly compliments and highlights the delicate flavours within each dish. I believe Nederburg to be among the very best of wine producers and have partnered with them in the development of this book to bring you an introduction to both Traditional and Contemporary South African Cuisine.

I must confess i will buy most books on South African cookery & lucky for me i did in this instance as this book is a cracker!
At the moment it seems to be all the rage to bring out cook books on simple cooking using leftovers or being able to cook a meal in 30mins or finding stuff in hedgerows - sound familiar?
That's all fine & dandy but you end up with the same recipes over & over again.
Being a South African cookbook the recipes are different however they are very easy to recreate at home & impress. For instance Steak with pinotage jus, wilted spinach & butternut mash ok it's just steak & mash i hear you say.
Well imagine having a bbq you cook the steak to order then serve up with mash, spinach & the pinotage jus which you prepared earlier - more time to be social & makes a change from burnt snausages & coleslaw?
This book is full of easy recipes that would really impress at a dinner party or you can put your own spin on them. I like this book & whats nice is that all main courses are written separately to the sides but it recommends what you could serve giving you page numbers - you flick through to sides & choose what you fancy.
Its a lovely book & whilst not full of hundreds of recipes it has what i would describe as having a core collection of recipes that will impress anyone you cook for.
I have to mention the Cola cake with sauce - i made this every day for nearly 2 week as i kept being asked by friends to make it for them.
This really is a book worth owning.
