I heard Eliane for the first time during my first evening of listening to Jazz FM with the track "Blue in green". I immediately gave up the radio and called up Amazon on my laptop to discover the large number of CDs this amazing lady has put out. A quick whiz through the MP3 samples for this CD was all I needed. I also sampled "Everything I love" - another "yes!". I couldn't wait for both CDs to arrive. I am relatively new to jazz and jazz piano has quickly become my favourite, and for me Eliane's playing is a joy. I actually like her voice - ok, it isn't Astrud Gilberto, but somehow her duskier voice seems to blend in well with her playing. This is a great CD - "Blue In Green" and "My Foolish Heart" are gems, but many of the other tracks are also excellent such as "But not for me" (Notting Hill memories), "Detour Ahead", "Evanesque" and "After All". Lovely laid-back tracks, lovely tinkly piano, and Marc Johnson's bass blending in so well. This wonderfully relaxing CD is a must for anyone collecting her stuff. In just over the five months since I first heard her I have bought eleven of her CDs and at least two are in my car whenever I'm travelling anywhere.

Personally, a very welcome departure from the overhyped saccharine jazz mud performed by Barbie dolls like Diana Krall or Viktoria Tolstoy, mud in which Eliane unfortunately dipped her toes with albums like 'Kissed by Nature' or 'Around the City'.

I have been an avid listener of Eliane since her debut with then-husband Randy Brecker, and this is certainly a return to her jazz roots of sorts, done with her unique sense of musical orchestration and interpretation which makes this an absolute treat. Her singing style - which, by the way, she has used & perfected since the early 90's (so much for 'put up with her singing') - just hits the spot, as always. Marc Johnson and Joey Baron are a beautifully seasoned and tight rhythm section, too!

Oh, and if you've got no clue what proper music is all about - it also won multiple awards, so you may safely go and buy it for your 'Ultimate truly very very best of award-winning' collection.

I think Eliane Elias is the best thing since sliced bread when it comes to her piano style and improvisations. To get that you must put up with her singing. This is the third album I have by her and not strictly her best. Nevertheless, put up with her vocals and enjoy the piano bits.
