Product Description

Product Description

There is something in the dark.

Billy St. John can hear it, and knows it is coming for him.

Following a power outage, Billy sends his wife and son to stay with family whilst he awaits the arrival of the man from Trans- Energy to come and restore power to their isolated country home. Darkness draws near, and with it comes the engineer from the power company – a giant of a man who calls himself ‘Grant’.
Billy lets the man into his home, only to find that he is anything but normal. Without power or contact with the outside world, Billy is forced to deal with the mental and physical torture from the increasingly unstable and volatile engineer, and is forced to go to the most extreme lengths in order to try and survive the relentless thing that has invaded the dark, claustrophobic confines of his home.

More About the Author

Michael Bray is a Horror author based in Leeds, England. Influenced from an early age by the suspense horror of authors such as Stephen King, and the trashy pulp TV shows like Tales From The Crypt & The Twilight Zone, he started to work on his own fiction, and spent many years developing his style. In May 2012, he signed a deal with the highly reputable Dark Hall Press to print and distribute his collection of interlinked short stories titled Dark Corners, which was released in September 2012. His second release was a Novella titled MEAT. His first full length novel, a supernatural horror titled Whisper was initially self-published, and following great critical acclaim, was sold to Horrific Tales publishing - his first Advance paying sale which went on to be a #1 best selling book on amazon, with over 45,000 downloads as of December 2013. It's sequel, Echoes also achieved best seller status upon its release in May 2014.

5.0 out of 5 stars More, please! 9 Jan 2014
Format:Kindle Edition|Verified Purchase
I normally shy away from novellas as I like to get engrossed in full-length novels. However, I have previously read work by this author so deviated from my usual routine. I read this story in one sitting, as I couldn't put it down. It tells of Billy's 'meeting' with the gentleman who has come to fix his power. This story was different, in a good way. It was wacky, to say the least. I don't want to say too much as I don't want to ruin it for you, but I definitely want to know where 'Grant' came from and why he was the way he was. (This is a massive hint to the author...please can we have a story about Grant's early days? - see, this is why I avoid novellas usually because I always end up wanting more!). This is a story that will instil fear into the reader. The characters are extremely well developed, to the point that the reader wants all the background on them. It's hard to write a review without giving the story away, but if you read it you will know exactly what I mean when I say it is freaky. It was disturbing to imagine a character such as Grant gaining access to your home. If you like horror, and you like being kept on the edge of your seat, with some blood and gore thrown in, then you need to read this fabulous tale.

For a short story, this is incredibly well written. I like the way the author describes everything in detail, making the reader thirst for more. I really enjoyed this book and cannot wait to read more from this great author.

5.0 out of 5 stars creepy and riveting 4 Jun 2014
Format:Kindle Edition|Verified Purchase
What starts out as a normal day soon becomes anything but. The lights go out and the repairman is called, and thats when things start getting surreal, without giving the plot away this is written brilliantly, managing to throw in creep out dialogue then lurchback to normality, then pump the tension back up again. The ending left me slightly open mouthed, if you love creepy horror with some gore put in places you wouldnt expect, buy this book. Michael Bray is one of my fave authors.

5.0 out of 5 stars An entertaining horror tale. 8 Feb 2014
Format:Kindle Edition|Verified Purchase
This tale thoroughly deserves its 5 stars in my opinion.
The description given by Bray is top marks, not just with sickening scenes but also with the psychological description. It gives the reader a real impression of the feeling of being there, feeling the atmosphere, something I've found the author is really good at. As with my past reviews I tend not to give the story away. That Is your decision on whether to read it or not. There are two main characters who are throughout the book. I found Billy the main character appealing and easy to sympathize with especially in the situation he found himself in.Bray always creates characters who I find grow on you. Making this easy for the reader to possibly guess what the character may do next.
Overall this story is easy to read,a balanced amount of Gore and psychological description and an unexpected twist at the end.
Mr Bray is definitely one to watch for the future!
