More About the Author

Firstly, a confession - Karen Adler is a 'nom de plume' as, perhaps when you've seen the subject matter of her book, you will understand why she prefers to remain anonymous.

Karen Adler is a virgin author. She wrote her novella, 'Something to Confess', not because she had great aspirations to be an author but for cathartic purposes, and she discovered that she loved it!

Married with children, but no dog, Karen enjoys a busy life in the english Oxfordshire countryside. Some of her activities are not what you would expect...but you'll have to read 'Something to Confess' to find out what they are!

5.0 out of 5 stars ...read from start ot finish in one go!... 29 Jun. 2012

I really loved this book and can relate to it in many ways.
As many other t-girls will know it is a therapy that helps our acceptance when we meet other t-girls and real girls and can talk over our real live stories and feelings. By putting pen to paper to beautifully tell this story Karen has reinforced my feeling of acceptance. And that means a lot to me.
So often we are the butt of so many jokes and ridicule it's very comforting to read such an open and honest view of how she came to terms with her shock of this devastating news. I love the added the humour, not to ridicule but just an obvious way for her to imagine the situation and goings on of her husband when dressed..."Bette Lynch in leopard leggings"..."image of my husband gyrating on the dance floor alongside other men in dresses"..."my husband sitting on floral settees, sipping tea, making polite ladylike conversation"..."he was not a woman, not a wife and not, ironically, in my shoes"...these and others made me laugh out loud!
Hopefully if I can pick the right moment, I can get my wife to read this story, I'm sure it will help her understand that lots of partners are in a similar situation all with their own stories and ways of coping.
Thanks to the author for sharing this very private part of your live.
I highly recommend this book to anyone in a similar situation.

5.0 out of 5 stars Worth a read 23 July 2012
Format:Kindle Edition|Verified Purchase
I am not related to or nor do I have any close transvestite or cross dresser friends. I decided to read this book on the whim. To be honest I wasn't sure if I would enjoy the book as I knew I wouldn't be able to relate to the story... however I was surprised!

It's a quite a short book (just the right length) and I was intrigued to read about Mark and Karen's experience. I didn't know much about the cross dressing and transvestite world before reading the book, and it's really opened my eyes.

This is an awful thing to admit, but if someone had asked me before reading this book how I would feel if my boyfriend told me he was a transvestite I would say that I would freak out and end our relationship, because surely he must be gay or sex mad. But after reading this lovely book it's made me realise that is not the case.

I would be keen to find out more about the psychology behind transvestitism, why do men enjoy wearing women's clothing. Is there some sort of common event which has happened in their lives?

A great read and I would highly recommend it. Well done Karen, I hope to read more from you.

5.0 out of 5 stars Well written and helpful 19 July 2012
By Penny
Format:Kindle Edition
Having been through a similar experience to the author I've spent the last few months learning about living with a transvestite. This short, well written book has been tremendously helpful in making me feel less alone in the strange new world I'm living in. Some things rang very true, while naturally others differed from my experience. In particular Karen's husband was already going out dressed when he made his brave decision to tell her. She also seemed to adapt far more quickly than me to her new life, and Mark/Annie was very lucky that she embraced the change so fully, joining in his social life and helping him with dress and makeup.

I'm travelling a similar road more slowly, but it's good to know others have gone this way before and emerged happier, richer people. Thank you Karen.

5.0 out of 5 stars Wonderful 24 Oct. 2012
Format:Kindle Edition
As a lifelong "closet" crossdresser, I couldn't get enough of this book! My only wish is that it could have gone on even longer! I envy her husband Mark for having the courage to be able to tell Karen about his secret. The manner and way that Karen has accepted Mark's alter ego is something that every TV would wish for from their own partner or SO (Significant Other). Unfortunately, most married TVs don't feel that they can share this secret and so they remain in the closet. Unfortunately, for every Mark and Karen success story there are lots of not so happy endings too. If you're either a TV or SO or someone interested in how breaking this news to someone so close can work, read this book!

5.0 out of 5 stars The perfect read for someone new to this world 13 Mar. 2013
By Louisa
Format:Kindle Edition|Verified Purchase
I am female and have never encountered the world of crossdressing or anything that comes packaged up with it. Until recently. I have been lucky enough to not only meet a man who has confided in me about this other world of his, but to be his first outside the CD community. Having kept it a secret for so, so many years for him to put that much trust in me, without even knowing me, the very least I could do was learn about his world. In wanting to get to know him, I knew I had to get to know the other side of him and, in time, 'her'. He recommended this book as a starting block, to give me some foundation, a route to questions and ultimately answers for both of us. I loved this book and had finished it within hours. It doesn't have all the answers, Karen and Mark's situation is theirs and this is mine but I am off the starting block now, going down the first straight. I'm sure there will be hurdles and a few s-bends to navigate but i'm prepared and what my research has shown me already (and i'm only a couple of weeks in) is that this world isn't all that unusual these days.. It has been an eye opener for me, any prejudice I may have felt in the past, through sheer ignorance has vanished. I would HIGHLY recommend this book to any women who discovers their partner has this other side, or to any male who is struggling to speak out.. Read it, you'll love it.
