No one knows Britain's countryside better than Christopher Somerville and here is this beautifully produced black and white handbook of his 100 favourite walks, illustrated with Claire Littlejohn's charming maps. He includes some superb places, from Carreg Sennen (probably the wildest and most beautifully sited castle in Wales) to Dunwich Minsmere (with it superb dunes and lost Atlantis of Suffolk). Each walk opens with a quirky story and upbeat observations, perfect for a little bit of arm chair traveling, and finishes with serious directions and practicalities. A book at home as much by bedside or fireside, as in your rucsac or car.
