I wanted a chair to rise to over 55cm and so there were few possibilities. But the Somerset seems well built and is very comfortable. As another reviewer commented the chair does rock slightly when in the locked position; it didn't bother me but it might if you wanted a rock solid chair. Fairly easy to assemble; I found a drop of 3 in 1 oil on the threads of the bolts used to fix the chairs made assembly much easier.

Why has no one mentioned this???, This chair is really uncomfortable for posture. I am 5 ft 10" tall(not a giant, but i guess average hight for a bloke), the base of the "headrest" in the chair back sits between my shoulder blades forcing your shoulders/upper back forward. This actualy makes you sit slumped forwards and you then have to try and using your body weight "tilt" backwards to get comfy, this lifts your legs away from the floor...All utterly rubbish. Other than that, there is a total lack of and angle adjustment between seat back and base. Its made reasonably well, and fit and finish is accetable. The fake leather looks OK in black. So to review, a reasonably made chair wth terrible functionalty, ergonometry and comfort!

Although the lumbar support and headrest are excellent, there are two serious flaws in this chair design.

1. The seat tilts back slightly, even when the tilt mechanism is locked off. Combined with the extra padding on the front of the seat, this creates a ridge which digs into the back of your legs.

2. To make this problem worse, the lowest height adjustment is still quite high.

I owned one of these chairs and have seen it sold under VARIOUS NAMES.

I bought it for the metal arm rests which might last a life time.

HOWEVER, the screw in points on the seat part of the chair might be made to LOOK heavy duty but AFTER THEY BREAK you find that the "cast iron" screw holes are held in place by FLIMSY "foil thickness" latches. I'm sure you get the idea.
...and as the entire chair is held together at these points, once they break, the chair is useless.

I have kept the arms and used them on other seats...
...but I didn't pay cash for a pair of long lasting arm rests!

Had one of these chairs for a little over a year now and, whilst it's been very comfortable, the plastic collar at the top of the gas-spring has cracked and broken in three.
Whilst the gas-spring is still in perfect working order, there's nothing to keep it upright in the base so the chair slops about now
I can't buy the plastic collar as a spare (it's a separate plastic part which just slides into the black steel outer sleeve for the gas-spring) so it's either a £35 gas-spring assembly or a new chair :-(
The exact same collar is also fitted to my wife's chair (a totally different design) so it's obviously a 'stock' part but only available as part of the gas-spring apparently

....but I was pleasantly surprised. Great delivery, easy to assemble, good support in the lumbar region, generally comfortable,
looks as good if not better than the picture, height and tilt adjustment work just dandy. Not a great deal of leather and smells a bit of plastic
for the first day....what the heck? a great buy for an office chair it has everything.
