This is an unusual book, in that it looks at the history of the well-documented Somerset & Dorset railway after its closure to passengers - dealing with remaining freight services, their withdrawal, and the subsequent demolition of the line. The detail provided is remarkable and as a result it is a very readable historic document - the research required would have been very extensive.
It is very well complemented by "Sabotaged & Defeated: Last rites on the SOmerset & Dorset" by Jeffrey Grayer (Kingfisher Productions, Settle, 2006), a colour album which illustrates much of the content of Tim Deacon's book.
