Book Description

Romance writer Jayne Miller was determined to make a new life for herself and her daughter, far from the heartache she'd left behind. She arrived in a late-winter storm--only to collide with a snow-dusted stranger. Her neighbor Tyler Lewis seemed to live a solitary life on his own terms, but his constant presence soon made her see past the brooding loner to the passionate man ready to break free of his brutal past. What would it take to convince Tyler that he wasn't somebody's tarnished hero--but the love of this woman's life?

I usually like reading longer novels, 300+ pages as you get alot of character and plot development. I wasn't sure about this one at first as I thought it might be a bit cheesy and I didn't think this could be achieved in less than 250 pages. How wrong I was, and its true when they say never judge a book by its cover.

Without giving too much away, it's about a divorced city woman who moves into a dilapidated house in the rural parts of Tennessee where she can have some peace to write her novel. Little does she know about small town living. Lucky for her, she accidently stumbles across an aloof, intimidating, stubborn and unsocial neighbour down the road, who prefers to disconnect himself from people and live solitary life. He hates people invading his space. He chooses this life because of his traumatic violent past, he feels this is the only way he can redeem himself and have some peace in this self-imposed exile.

A series of events occur where they have to interact with each other. What I liked about the characters were, the hero was a brooding personality with a dark side but with instances of dry humour and humanity, he is compelled to help others with tasks as a form of combating his loneliness and redeeming himself of his demons. She believes that she needs to get back on track with her career to support her daughter and doesn't want to be hurt again by another broken affair.
They were like two lost soul with sad pasts who unconsciously help each other to come to terms with their past. The country setting is very community inspired and everyone looking out for each other but also everyone knows each other's business.

5.0 out of 5 stars ONE OF THE BEST BOOKS I HAVE EVER READ 1 Jun. 2007
By Connie S. Johnson - Published on Amazon.com
Format:Mass Market Paperback
This story is about two wonderful characters, Jayne Miller, a romance writer and Tyler Lewis, a carpenter. Here is the back of the book: Romance writer, Jayne Miller, was determined to make a new life for herself and her daughter, far from the heartache she'd left behind. She arrived in a late winter storm, only to collide with a snow dusted stanger. Her neighbor, Tyler Lewis seemed to live a solitary life on his own terms, but his constant presence soon made her see past the brooding loner to the passionate man ready to break free of his brutal past. What would it take to convince Tyler that he wasn't somebody's tarnished hero, but the love of this woman's life?

But that just doesn't cover it all, their stories are so indepth and touching. Two people who have been so hurt and need each other so bad. I couldn't put it down, very enjoyable.

5.0 out of 5 stars Oooo, YUM 20 Mar. 2007

Let's just put it this way - this was my first Marilyn Pappano book and because of it, I had to go back to Amazon and buy all her other ones. I just fell in love with the characters and am so glad there are second chances in life and love. Buy this book!

Several years later: It is still one of my favorite books by her. I did get the first two in this "series" Somebody's Lady and Somebody's Baby but this one is still my fave.
