Book Description

Somebody Tell Aunt Tillie She's Dead! A little magic can go a long way -- to really screwing up a girl's life! Mara is having the worst month of her life. At least, that’s what her cards tell her and they’ve never been wrong. She's evicted from her apartment, loses her job and is banned from Beverly Hills. So when the tarot cards predict her imminent demise, she uses a little magic to make her world right. Suddenly, an aunt she’s never met dies, leaving Mara as her sole heir. But when Mara moves into her inherited home, she discovers Aunt Tillie never moved out. She’s still one pissed-off old lady, even post-mortem, and she blames Mara’s magical meddling for her death. When Mara accidentally releases a demon and awakens the spirit of the most powerful witch in history, Tillie’s ready to kill her -- literally. It’s the only way she can think of to save the girl from herself. The witch and the demon, however, have other plans for Mara’s body! Genre: Horror: Ghost Story; Occult; Supernatural Suspense; Urban Fantasy; Paranormal Chick Lit. What Book Reviewers Are Saying: “This was so much fun to read I didn't want it to end! Christiana Miller’s background in the TV industry shows in her confident, imaginative plotting and idiosyncratic characters that leap off the page with the power of their intention within the story.” Reading is My Super Power What Other Authors Are Saying: “A spellbinding tale about the families we are born to--and the ones we choose. It captivates from the first page and holds on until the final, shocking conclusion. You won't want to miss it!” Barbra Annino, Opal Fire: A Stacy Justice Mystery “Somebody Tell Aunt Tillie She's Dead is a fine romp through spookyland, with enough paranormal creepiness to chill your blood. Witches, demons, magic spells, oh my! There's just enough intrigue and magic spells to keep you on edge, and Miller's hilarious one-liners leave you begging for more. Highly recommended for fun but scary reading on dark, stormy nights.” Bonnie Turner, Down the Memory Hole

More About the Author

Christiana Miller is a novelist, screenwriter and mom who's led an unusual life. In addition to writing for General Hospital: Night Shift and General Hospital, she's had her DNA shot into space (where she's currently cohabiting in a drawer with Stephen Colbert and Stephen Hawking), she's been serenaded by Klingons, and she's been the voices of all the female warriors in Mortal Kombat II and III. If her life was a TV show, it would be a wacky dramedy filled with eccentric characters who get themselves into bizarre situations.

5.0 out of 5 stars Very enjoyable 16 May 2012
By AnneDon
Format:Kindle Edition
This is not the type of book I would normally read; however, it was free for the Kindle, so I took a chance. The plot is excellent, and the characters and dialogue are engaging enough to make the reader suspend belief.

So many 'Paranormal' books are just for soppy teenagers; this is a real exception - the plot is very grounded and the author gives several 'probable' explanations for the situations, before revealing the full backstory and climax of the book.

I haven't seen anything else by this author, but I will look out for her. Apparently, she has worked on scripts for tv, and I think that showed in her ability to write credible characters and amusing dialogue.

4.0 out of 5 stars Want more! 27 April 2012
By Caro
Format:Kindle Edition|Verified Purchase
After reading so many truly awful ebooks recently it was a real treat to come across this one.

I didn't have high hopes, the wisecracking style it is written in isn't usually my preference but the author has done some homework on her subject and it shows ( allowing for a certain amount of literary licence!). Under the frothy "whatever" style of writing it is quite a gothic little tale.

Once started I found it hard to put down and when I had to I was keen to get back so yes I throughly enjoyed it and will be looking for more from this author.

4.0 out of 5 stars Wicked Witchy Fun! 19 Dec 2011
Format:Kindle Edition
I got this ebook free and it's my favourite kindle freebie so far! This is a great little ebook with some really fun, believable characters. I loved both Mara and Gus; and thought Paul made a good romantic interest. It is well written and I thought the pace perfect...in fact my only niggle is the italicised 'if only I knew' paragraphs which crop up at the end of the early chapters as if the author is worried the reader may lose interest without reminding them that things are going to get scarey! I just didn't need these as I was interested enough without them, and found they irritated me so I ended up just skipping them and I loved the story's natural build up and pacey ending. I will definitely be looking out for a sequel.

This was a fun read, with a few scary moments thrown in, and it kept me guessing.I liked the main character, and Gus, wasn't sure about Aunt Tillie though! I would like to see these characters again, and would def read another book by this author, job well done, I'd say!

5.0 out of 5 stars Great fun read! 19 Aug 2014
Format:Kindle Edition|Verified Purchase
This is the first book I've read by Christiana Miller and I'm glad I have. I completely agree with all the reviews by both readers and authors, and to add my own thoughts...

It's good to see most of the reviews are highly in favour of this book. It's well written with very well developed characters that are truly likeable. The pace changes keeping it interesting and yes there is a lot of dialogue which for me is a plus as I'd rather learn about the characters from themselves rather than be told about them. It's a light easy read which draws you into its story to the point where you don't want to put it down and the paramormal angle has been researched making it all a plausible and very entertaining read. I studied Literature but am in no way a book snob. Every genre has its place as long as it's well written. Some may prefer to stay with a couple of genres but if you have a wide based reading, it's good to have a well written, well developed novel that's fun to read to brighten the tone after some heavier novels.Which is why I bought this book as I'm always on the lookout for those lighter works of a good standard. Very much looking forward to the sequel.

1.0 out of 5 stars Dreadful 21 Aug 2012
Format:Kindle Edition|Verified Purchase
Was looking forward to this after reading the other reviews, but after struggling through to about halfway through the book, and nothing much happening except relationship troubles and job/flat searching, I got bored and gave up. Luckily the book is so simply written that I didn't waste too much of my time getting that far...

4.0 out of 5 stars Different! 18 Aug 2012
By EMLOU
Format:Kindle Edition|Verified Purchase
I've read alot on my Kindle recently and this is one of the better ones that I've read. It was a fun, engaging story, with bit of everything that I like, witches, ghosts, spells, a little bit of love and the token gay funny friend. I stayed up till 1.30am to finish this book which is unheard of for me. I would definitely read other books by this author.

4.0 out of 5 stars Very enjoyable 2 July 2012

Although this isn't normally my type of book I'm pleased I bought it. I really enjoyed the characters, especially Gus.I think the author got the interaction between him and Mara spot on. I read it in one sitting and then bought A tale of three witches. Easy reading and I could quite see this making a good TV series.

Not my usual choice of reading but the title intrigued. A light read, odd twist at the end. Wouldn't bother too much about a follow-up, although someone half my age might.
