Familiar or not with Josh Lanyon's writing, I think you'll love this book if you like great writing, a quirky sense of humour and an engaging mystery. I'm a huge fan of Lanyon's Adrien English series (I've just finished the 5th and latest) and I was slightly worried that this new series wouldn't live up to that one. I needn't have worried. Lanyon pulls off a very neat trick here in making the Christopher Holmes character and world similar enough to the Adrien English ones that his fans will love it, but different enough to stand alone and be intriguing in its own right.
Holmes, a writer of gentle Miss Marple-esque novels is about to be dumped by his editor. He's persuaded to go to a writers' conference being held in a remote lodge. The lodge becomes cut off by a storm, bodies begin to pile up, and Christopher can't resist investigating. Holmes is a great character with an acerbic sense of humour.
This is the sort of book that you don't want to end because you are living there happily with the characters, their world very real and engaging.
I, for one, can't wait for the next in the series.
