3.0 out of 5 stars Accepable, not inspiring. 28 Nov. 2013

I found this an acceptable read but not inspiring nor exciting. You may enjoy this book if you are really interested in the people who are included, but then, if you are that interested, you probably already know a lot more about them than this book covers.

1.0 out of 5 stars Very mundane 22 Jun. 2014

There was nothing in this book that I couldn't have read in an encyclopaedia. I thought it would be about ordinary people and how the war affected them. Wrong! I could have looked all of this up elsewhere.

3.0 out of 5 stars Some known, some not so well known 26 Nov. 2013
Some interesting characters included in thus book. I studied this war for my thesis at the end of teacher training college. But if course in the early 80's not that many books were available in Europe and I had to make do with whatever information I could find.

Great background for the period. This booklet gives information on both well and lesser known figures in the conflict. Most useful for people like myself who know little and would like to know more.

5.0 out of 5 stars history unfolds before your eyes 23 Sept. 2013

So much information given that I knew nothing about. If you like American civil war history this book will tell you about people you may recognize but facts about them you won't know.

A very good insight on how has in most civil wars families are split and fighting on both sides, with a look at how their wives made out during and after the conflict.
