Format:Audio CD
I received this album, unordered from a record club and as it wasn't sealed, in the usual cellophane wrapper, I decided to give it a try, before sending it back.
It was never returned as I quite liked it. As I kept playing it, I liked it even more and now it is one of the favourites in my collection, which is quite extensive.
Previously I had seen Miss Midler on UK TV chat shows and in one recorded concert and was never impressed, in fact much the opposite, finding her brash and loud. However there is none of that on this recording and I now consider her to be one of the most under-rated singers of the last 20 years.
To anyone who feels the same as I originally did, I suggest you give this a try. Great songs, sung very well! The only thing that could have made it better would be if it had her recording of "Winds Beneath My Wings". However songs like "From A Distance" make up for this together with probably the best version of "Miss Otis Regrets" that I have heard.

What a great voice and a good selection of songs. From simple love songs, in some cases with a piano to powerful fast moving 1940's sounding music. With driving trumpets and brass and some close Andrew type sisters backing vocals EXCELLENT.
I just park my Flying Fortress, and will join you in the officers club. If she was born then? She would have been the forces sweetheart, a lot more raunchier and sexier version. Bye Bye Vera.
Favourite track? Not tracks?? So I have to pick just one. Very hard.... let me listen to it again. I have had this CD for years, picked up at a second hand CD shop in the early 90'S.

If you like Bette (at her less-than-raucous) you'll enjoy this selection. If my kids ever get married, I'll make sure "The gift of love" is played at the party, and I'm going to replace my worn-out cassette with a CD just for this song.

a good mix of bette midlers styles
a good cd for both fans and first time listeners,this cd has a great variety of bettes best songs with classics like From a Distance and other great songs like All Of A Sudden. Read more
