The DJ era of reggae which Big Youth helped initiate is known for its one-hit-wonders, but Youth broke those bounds on this set. Unfortunately, the linear notes to this great album are non-existent, so the producer of these lush rhythms isleft a mystery. Regardless, this is among Big Youth's best efforts.
The jewel-toothed superstar shines on this collection of socially-conscious tunes. Tracks like "World War III" help to define the fear the international community felt during the Cold War tensions of the 1980s. "Green Bay Killing" is a plea to stop the senseless violence affecting life in Jamaica. "Love Jah With All of My Heart" demonstrates Youth's undying faith in the late Ethiopian emperor Hailie Selassie, who was a constant source of inspiration for this prolific artist. Even the risky interpretation of Lennon and McCartney's "We Can Work it Out" isn't far off the mark. While certainly not his strongest material, this album is a testament to Big Youth, and the longevity rarely enjoyed by reggae DJs.
