Product Description

Product Description

Some Days Suck, Some Days Suck Worse is a collection of short horror and suspense stories. The stories run the gamut of fear; monsters, phobias, heartbreak and insanity, even a visit or two from Ol' Scratch, himself.
Sometimes we fear the supernatural, sometimes the unknown; sometimes life is cruel enough on its own to surpass anything we could conjure up in our nightmares. You will find it all here.
What you will not find, as the title implies, is a happy ending. These are stories that will hurt your heart, assault your sensibilities and make you check under the bed and in the closet before you crawl under the covers. There is something in these pages to disturb everyone.
And, while you won't find any "happily ever afters" inside, if you enjoy a good thrill, a bit of suspense or a healthy scare, this collection will leave you with a smile on your face. Of course, your face may be cowering under the covers just the same.

They really do... 25 Aug 2011
My cursor hovered between 4* and 5* for a while, but in the end I couldn't bring myself to give this title anything but 5*. I couldn't set my proofreader's critical gaze aside, and the few insignificant typos and misspellings that I spotted are the only reasons why I struggled initially to give this 5*.

However, the most important fact is that the storylines themselves are superbly crafted, evoking both vivid imagery, and a very acute sense of the fears that plague people, haunting their both their waking thoughts and their unconscious minds. The writer shows a skilled understanding of exactly what it is that frightens people - 'Under My Bed' being the perfect example of that - and I found myself greatly enjoying all of the stories, chuckling away to myself and nodding along in agreement before the inevitable twist in the tale catches you off-guard and chills you to the core.

My personal favourite was, I think, 'The Block' - I think perhaps the infamous curse of the writer's block is the thing that frightens me above all else. And again on a personal note, I loved the little bits of Polish heritage woven throughout - an insight into the author, and something I could really identify with as the granddaughter of a Polish immigrant.

A cracking read, and I loved the author's evident disdain for happy endings! Thoroughly recommended.

Giving this short horror collection 5 stars was easy, but I've thought long and hard about how to write this review.
I don't want to give too much away, and I won't attempt to influence future readers' favorite stories.

What I WILL say is that this collection is a masterful spread of classic horror. The somewhat wordy title does, in the end, sum it all up: Some Days Suck, and Some Suck Worse. Through his stories, Mr. Kozlowski gives spooky example after spooky example of just what those suck-ish days might look like.

This is a GREAT read. I highly recommend it.
